Southsea castle from the rear
Southsea Castle stands at a Strategic point on the Western Approaches to Portsmouth Harbour.  It has commanded the deep water route into Portsmouth for five centuries.
The square keep stands above its angular bastions and a prominent lighthouse is clearly visible on its Western walls.
It is a building with a long and fascinating history, allegedly designed by Henry VIII himself and to a design that revolutionized fortifications in Britain.
