In an attempt to promote business development and to help the public gain better knowledge in the field of post, the Directorate General of
Posts (DGP) established the Postal Museum on December 1, 1965. The museum, originally accommodated in the former office of the DGP in
suburban Hsintien, formally opened to public on the 20th of March, 1966. For the convenience of the public, it moved to the current site
and re-opened on October 10, 1984.("in the Nanhai Academy...")
The exhibition is divided into four sections located on different floors. They are Postal History Section
on the 2nd and 3rd floors, Modern Postal Service Section on the 4th floor, Philately Section on the 5th floor and Special Exhibition Section
on the 6th floor. In addition, there is a library specialized in Postal Service and Philately on the 7th floor.
The Postal Library houses a collection of over 40,000 books as well as hundreds copies of periodicals. Its open-shelf service allows visitors
to access material easily and everyone is welcome to use it.

The Bueauty of Museums of Taiwan Souvenir Sheet (9/2014)
1. National Palace Museum (NT$12): Located in Taipei City, the Museum's main building is a Chinese palatial structure. Light-blue glazed roof tiles drape over the yellow walls. Sparkling stone-washed railings encircle the bluestone platform. The clean and elegantly styled museum houses close to 700,000 ancient artifacts hailed from Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties.
2. National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NT$5): Situated in Taichung City, the structure is noted for its clean, sleek lines and modernity. The south wing is built with a glass curtain wall, where the lights and shadows tango to the rhythm of time and weather. The sculptures in the courtyard chart the historic trajectory of this art form in Taiwan. NTMOFA is the only national-class museum of its kind in the country.
3. National Taiwan Museum (NT$5): Set in Taipei City, the building is a nod to the classic European structure. Its facade is modeled after an ancient Greek temple, with a vaulted roof ceiling of a Roman Pantheon. The towering Doric columns, and ornately decorated walls add to the structure's stateliness. The century-old museum prides itself in a rich collection of Taiwan's humanitarian and natural relics.
4. National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NT$5): Seated in Tainan City, the Museum was first built to house the Tainan Prefectural Government. It is a western-style structure supported by bricked load-bearing walls; its main entrance is a portico flanked by two guard towers to give the structure a symmetric elegance. The original structure underwent an overhaul after the Tainan City Government relocated elsewhere. The Museum is a focal point of Taiwan's literature, culture, and history, and a centennial national heritage site.
5. National Museum of Taiwan History (NT$5): Established in Tainan City, the Museum is designed to celebrate ethnic harmony in Taiwan. The landmark Cloud Wall of the structure is a statement of Taiwan's historic significance, and powered by solar energy. The spatial design blends seamlessly into its natural backdrop to signify successful coexistence between architecture and nature.

As a result of the break up of the Soviet Union Tajikistan became an independent nation in 1991. A civil war was fought almost immediately after
independence that lasted from 1992 to 1997 however since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed
the country's economy to grow. . .
Tajikistan's 8 million people belong to the Tajik ethnic group, who speak Tajik, a dialect of Modern Persian, although many people also
speak Russian.

From the TTPOST Stamp Shop
The Lady McLeod was a paddle steamer and a private local post. The ship sailed regularly between Port of Spain and San Fernando,
on Trinidad Island, now in Trinidad and Tobago from the end of 1845 until 1854. The private local post ran during the same time
with the use of postage stamps on its mail from April 1847. The ship was christened in homage of the Governor Sir Henry McLeod's
wife and began its Port of Spain-San Fernando route in November 1845. The 60-ton, 40 hp, steamer was bought by Turnbull, Stewart
& Co. In 1846, David Bryce bought it and let it some years later to a San Fernando consortium.
In April 1847, Bryce decided to introduce stamps that were sold individually for 5 cents, or for 4 cents if bought by the hundred.
The Lady McLeod only transported letters bearing stamps, or pre-paid mail of the subscribers. The imperforated stamp's illustration
was a white ship on a blue background, with the initials "LMc L" printed underneath. Lithographically printed, the stamp was cancelled
by a cross drawn by hand or by ripping up a corner.

Nowadays the collecting of postage stamps has become one of the major hobbies. Although everybody has a special interest in a subject and
is fond of dealing with their collection . . . it is also the most interesting, the best training and the most profitable . . .
Dealing with stamps is informative as well as pleasurable. Stamps are representatives of the countries to which
they belong. They teach the collectors their countries' history, geography, economy, famous persons, beauties, social life and traditions.
The cultural level of a stamp collector automatically increases by dealing with a collection of stamps. . . gives pleasure to the
collector of having information, helps them to build strong friendships and, furthermore, it is possible to have one with a small savings.

Northern Cyprus , officially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,
is a self-declared state that comprises the northeastern portion of the island of Cyprus. Recognised only by Turkey, Northern Cyprus is
considered by the international community as part of the Republic of Cyprus.
A united Cyprus gained independence from British rule in August 1960, after both Greek and Turkish Cypriots agreed to respectively abandon
plans for enosis (union with Greece) and taksim (Turkish for 'partition'). The agreement involved Cyprus being governed under a constitution
which apportioned Cabinet posts, parliamentary seats and civil service jobs on an agreed ratio between the two communities. Within three years,
tensions between the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in administrative affairs began to show. . .
The 1974 coup d'état, an attempt to annex the island to Greece, was followed by the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. This resulted in the eviction
of much of the north's Greek Cypriot population, the flight of Turkish Cypriots from the south, and the partitioning of the island, leading to
a unilateral declaration of independence by the North in 1983.
The first postage stamps were issued in 1974.
On 2 August 1975, in the negotiations in Vienna, a population exchange agreement was signed between community leaders ... under the auspices of United Nations.

The Turks and Caicos Islands lie southeast of Mayaguana in the Bahamas island chain and north of the island of Hispaniola. Cockburn Town,
the capital since 1766, is situated on Grand Turk Island about 1,042 kilometres (647 mi) east-southeast of Miami, United States. The islands
have a total land area of 430 square kilometres (170 sq mi). They are geographically contiguous with the Bahamas, but are politically separate.
The first recorded European sighting of the islands now known as the Turks and Caicos occurred in 1512. In the subsequent centuries, the
islands were claimed by several European powers with the British Empire eventually gaining control. For many years the islands were governed
indirectly through Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Jamaica. When the Bahamas gained independence in 1973, the islands received their own governor
and have remained a separate autonomous British Overseas Territory since.

Tuva (aka: Tannau Tuva; a region of Russia)
Data needed.
See Also: Commonwealth of Independent States
Agent: (none known)
The postage stamps of Tannu Tuva form one of philately's curious byways, featuring quirky and colorful stamps, many of questionable validity,
issued by an obscure country which held special fascination for young stamp collectors in the middle of the twentieth century.
From 1934 to 1936, Tuva issued about 100 different postage stamps with exotic images of Tuvan life, including horse racing, nomadic battle scenes, and domestic animals including camels and oxen. These large format stamps came in a variety of shapes including diamonds, and were widely sold to collectors in canceled to order (CTO) form.
According to one source, these stamps were the brainchild of Bela Sekula, a promoter of philatelic "rarities", who in 1934 convinced the Tuvan
and Soviet authorities to manufacture exotic stamps to sell to collectors. They were in fact "designed in Moscow, printed in Moscow, franked
in Moscow and sold abroad by a Moscow state trading firm to earn hard currency for Moscow.
Since the 1990s, numerous labels purporting to be postage stamps of Tuva have appeared on the market. They have depicted a variety of
unlikely Tuvan subjects, such as Bart Simpson, the Teletubbies and Led Zeppelin, and are all illegal stamps apparently intended to deceive
collectors.
|
While the status of many Tuvan postage stamps is disputed, a number of revenue stamps were issued for Tuva in 1926, whose status is not in doubt.
(Wikipedia)

Russia Dealers Directory
| |
The Xiongnu Empire (209 BC-93 CE) governed the territory of modern Tuva. . .
The territory of Tuva has been ruled by the Mongolic Xianbei state (93-234), Rouran Khaganate (330-555), Mongol Empire (1206-1368),
Northern Yuan (1368-1691), Khotgoid Khanate and Zunghar Khanate (1634-1758) . . .
On August 14, 1921 the Bolsheviks (supported by Russia) established a Tuvan People's Republic, popularly called Tannu-Tuva. In 1926,
the capital (Belotsarsk; Khem-Beldyr since 1918) was renamed Kyzyl, meaning "red". Tuva was de jure an independent state
(A treaty between the Soviet Union and the Mongolian People's Republic in 1926 affirmed the country’s independence, although no other countries formally recognized it.)
between the World Wars.
The Soviet Union annexed Tuva outright in 1944, with the approval of Tuva's Little Khural (parliament). The exact circumstances surrounding
Tannu-Tuva's incorporation into the USSR in 1944 remain obscure. . .
(Wikipedia)
The standing of the Tannu Tuva stamps has been controversial with some catalogues formerly not listing Tuvan stamps, however, all the
major catalogues now include the stamps while noting the existence of many cancelled to order stamps. Philatelists contend that early Tuvan
stamps did see limited postal use and covers do exist. Philatelic literature such as "The Postal History and Stamps of Tuva" by S.M.
Blekhman also confirms non-philatelic commercial use of the stamps.
Notwithstanding their questionable origins, these exotic stamps were popular with young collectors during the middle of the twentieth century.
This is documented, for example, in Tuva or Bust!, Richard Feynman's Last Journey by Ralph Leighton (W.W. Norton & Co., 1991), where childhood
memories of the colorful stamps of Tannu Tuva inspired Nobel prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman and the author on a quest, first to contact
someone in Tuva, and then to actually visit the country. Feynman died before achieving his goal, but Leighton ultimately reached Tuva.
Leighton and Feynman's efforts rekindled an interest in Tuva and its stamps, which now are the subject of numerous websites.
