Why change your throttle body elbow? Because the 2nd Gen one is way bigger. Bigger is better.

Looks pretty good from the front eh? Well it is, there is a huge difference between the 1st Gen on the right and the 2nd Gen on the left. Just bolting on the 2nd Gen TBE should make an improvement, along with the appropriate upper intercooler piping. But if you are going to bolt a 2nd Gen TBE onto your 1st Gen you may as well go all the way. Take a look at the rear of the same two TBEs. Again the 2nd Gen is on the left and the 1st Gen is on the right.

The rear of the 1st Gen TBE is 60mm and the 2nd Gen TBE is 55mm. Putting the same 1st Gen gasket on both of the TBEs makes the difference real obvious. I think putting a 2nd Gen TBE onto a 1st Gen throttle body without porting it is a bad idea since the 1st Gen throttle body is 60mm.

What to do? Port it out of course! Gently bolt a 1st Gen TBE gasket to the 2nd Gen TBE and scribe a line.

Then fire up the compressor and get out the die grinder. Very carefully grind out to the line and then taper it so it flows smoothly. Make sure you use the right kind of bit in your grinder or you will be stopping every 30 seconds to clean aluminum out of the bit.

The aluminum bit is on the left, the steel on the right. The aluminum bit may look like it will just tear up whatever it touches, but it does not. It actually works well and is very controllable.

This is what the final product will look like after a little sanding. Now you have 60mm in and 60mm out.
