BIRTHRIGHT Campaign Setting

What is Birthright?

Birthright is a campaign setting originally designed for the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (2ed) roleplaying game, but fans are now rewriting it so it can be used with the Dungeons & Dragons (3ed) rules.

The games are set after the battle of the gods at Mount Deismar, where the gods destroyed their evil counterpart, but in the process they too were vanquished. The essence of the gods was absorbed by many on the battlefield, giving them and their ancestors special "blood abilities". Some are minor abilities like never being lost ("Direction Sense") or being very alert ("Alertness"). Some are much more useful like "Regeneration". Those that were greatly tainted by the essence of the evil god Azrai became very powerful, but their shape was twisted as a consequence. They are the evil Awnsheghlien eg. the Medusa, the Sphinx.

The land of Cerilia is connected to some blooded people who are Regents. Regents are in charge of one or more temples, guilds, provinces, magic hotspots or institutes. Birthright can be played as a combination of adventures and/or just political intrigue between regents.

Players can play a fighter, paladin, ranger, specialised priest (which incorporates druids), wizard, magician (a Birthright specific minor mage), thief or bard. The allowed races are human (divided up into 5 differing races), elf, half-elf, dwarf or halfling. The halflings have the secret that they originated from the Shadow World, a twisted version of Cerilia that the halflings fled from before Mount Deismar.

Brokk and his Companions

I am presently playing an ongoing Birthright game set in the world of Cerilia. We play one 6-8 hour session each month with the same party (known as Team D). We only do adventures, not the domain-based gaming. My character is Brokk, the druid.
A number of characters were previously with the party and some still play an important part in the politics of Cerilia.

There is a Timeline of the exploits of Team D.
