What Sniper Rifle is best?
Well, the only reason your probably here today. To see which sniper rifle is the best to use...
On this page, there will be a little bit of info about the rifles, a few stats about them, and then some stats i wish to add.
(Sorry about the page layout, its the gay way the pictures copied)

Barrett Light .50 caliber Sniper
Rifle
Magazine: 8 round (the magazine holds
10 rounds, but experts only use 8 to avoid jamming)
Effective Range: 1500 meters
Accessories: 10x Scope
The Barrett 0.50 'Light Fifty' model 82A1 is a long-range hard
target interdiction weapon. The gun operates on short recoil
principles, where the barrel is fitted with a high-efficiency
muzzle brake to reduce recoil. An adjustable self-levelling bipod
aids the sniper in aiming this high-powered rifle. The Barrett is
heavy and cannot be fired accurately while moving. Snipers are
most accurate in the prone position with the Barrett.
Yes...the barrett. My personal favorate rifle.
Some of the advantages are:
It has an effective scope, and a VERY long range.
It is powerful enough to get a 1 shot kill in up to 1500m.
Its ACCURATE, VERY ACCURATE.
It cant be heard over about 700m.
You can be in dense cover far away were you wont get seen easily and still kill other players.
There are a lot of problems faced by the user of this gun though...
Some of the problems are:
The recoil of the weapon can push you well down a hill if your not careful enough.
The flash from the barrel and muzzel end can be seen VERY easily.
Its LOUD. Thats the one very bad thing about the .50 cal. Because of its loudness, any people hunting you down will have no problem finding you, especially if you fire constant amounts of bullets.
The mag may hold 10round, but you cant carry many clips of ammo. If you take a Barrett, ghillie suit and extra ammo, you will get 5 clips of 10rounds...10x5=50 rounds maximum. And if you arent a very good shot then you may waste say 25 rounds. That only gives you 25 kills (if you manage to stay alive long enough) which means, unless your spot is near an armory or you dont mind blowing yourself up with one of your grenades, then your going to have to conserve ammunition.
Its got a long barrel, which sticks out of cover unless you find the right type of cover, and it can be a giveaway to your position.
Its heavy, and when running its best to put away the barrett and run with your knife out. You will be slower if just running with the rifle out. (Ill go into movement with and without the rifle later on)
Now ill discuss the M40(A1) rifle
M40A1 Sniper Rifle
Magazine: 5 rounds
Effective Range : 800 meters
Accessories: 10x Scope
Based on the Remington model 700, this 7.62mm rifle is optimised
for pinpoint accuracy. Hand-made by specialists at Quantico, the
M40A1 is renown for its competition-grade stainless steel barrel,
reinforced fiberglass stock and 10x power sniper scope. The M40A1
s the preferred sniping rifle among U.S. Marines.
Ok, looking at the way its described, this rifle sounds like a snipers dream. The 'is the preferred sniping rifle amoung U.S Marines' got me to choose it. And i used this rifle successfully for about 3 months. Some of the advantages are listed below...
Advatnages of the M40:
Its VERY quite, and it can be hard to find out were the sound is coming from.
It can take a good amount of bullets. Compaired to the Barrett, this carrys a 5 round mag, but with 1 Extra Ammunition and a Ghillie suit thats 17 mags you take....so 17x5=85 rounds. Thats OVER double that of the barrett. In one round you could use up this amo, but if you did it would be either VERY accurate shooting, and fast shooting, or it would be poor shooting wasting bullets on targets you cant hit.
Its accurate. (not much to say here about its accuracy, it depends on the shooter)
The Muzzel flash isnt stupidly huge, its quite small.
Its got a short barrel so it wont stick miles out of cover and give you away as easily.
Its light, easily to move about and pretty fast to run with.
Some of the disadvantages are:
Its short range. Its got a harrassing fire range of 1000m. Thats not killing range, thats the fire that if you shoot another sniper, they get a red screen, the other sniper can think 'Crap im getting shot at here', and he'll hopefully get up and run away. THATS harrassing fire. Effective fire on this is only 800m. Thats pretty far, but considering even in the effective range sometimes you cant get 1 shot kills, its not very good. Ive found VERY maximum range i can shoot somebody and get a first shot kill on the m40 is about 680m and under. After that expect to have to fire twice.
It can get annoying at times to watch tracers fall short or miss their target because the rifle is easily effected by the wind, and wind speed and by other elements of the game.
Because of its short range, it means you need a REALLY good spot to hide in, otherwise you stand a very good chance of getting spotted by your tracers.
Even though it has lots of ammo, this is misleading. People see 17 clips and think they have lots of ammo, when it only carrys 5 bullets. This means people will run out of ammo quickly.
It lures you into a false sence of security as you think its quite, when in reality a observent sniper could hear your rifle, and while you shooting away, your tracers will reveal you.. A sniper will eventually find were the tracers are coming from, and find you. (ill discuss tracers and positioning in 'Were are the best places' and the 'Any more tips' sections)
