Paris

.Since the 4th of July fell on a Thursday, we decided to make it a four day weekend and spend it in Paris. Thursday evening we arrived at our hotel in Paris and went to a small Parisian restaurant for a wonderful French meal, to include traveling minstrels to entertain us while we dined. After dinner we went over to the Eiffel Tower and rode the elevator to the second level. Once on the second level, you can take another elevator up to the very top, but the lines were too long to allow us to go all the way up on this trip.

On Friday,  we took a morning bus tour of this beautiful city and saw a highlight of the many sights. Friday afternoon was spent in the Musee Du Louvre, the largest museum in the world. We got to see such masterpieces as the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, and the Venus de Milo. On Friday evening We took a boat ride down the River Seine and saw all the lovely Paris sights from the water. We also took a night tour of the city after dinner at another quaint Parisian restaurant.

On Saturday morning we toured the great Palace of Versailles. The weather was rainy and there were big crowds, but seeing this grandiose palace was still amazing. On Saturday afternoon we visited Les Invalides, Napoleon Bonaparte's final resting place. We also got the opportunity to see another great piece of art, Auguste Rodin's "The Thinker." On Saturday evening we toured Notre Dome before having dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Sunday, before heading back to Calais to catch the ferry back to England, we stopped by the Sacre Coeur and Place du Tertre (Artist Square).
