Chloe Sullivan, born in 1987, is a passionate and caring person. Chloe is the character in the beginning credits who was never before seen in the Superman mythology before Smallville. She is also one of the few people to know of Clark Kent's powers.

When the show first started she was the editor of The Torch, Smallville High's newspaper. Her journalistic impulsivity and curiosity sometimes gets her into trouble--sometimes life-threatening and sometimes relationship-threatening.

Chloe first found out about Clark's secret when his girlfriend at the time, Alicia Baker, revealed it to him by setting him up. We see her struggle to find the right moment to reveal her knowing his secret to him. In 5.1 Arrival we see her being pulled through the Kowatchi Cave wall and ending up in the Arctic with Clark in the Fortress of Solitude. It was there she revealed to him that she knew of his powers.

Chloe's confidence and determination landed her a job at the Daily Planet, the very place Clark and Lois Lane will one day end up working.
