How
about Australia’s best market, every Saturday at Salamanca
Place in Hobart’s dockland?
Or
a concert performance by our Tasmanian
Symphony Orchestra, one of the world’s finest small orchestras?
Or
a visit to the nation’s biggest craft
fair in Deloraine every November?
Each
month of the year, there’s fun and festivity. Hobart’s
Summer Festival is two weeks of flavours, music
and sunshine, with the Taste
of Tasmania and the thrilling finish in late December
of the world’s finest blue-water ocean racing classic, the Sydney
to Hobart Yacht Race. The Tamar
Valley Festival of the Senses incorporating Launceston’s Festivale is the
north’s cultural focus in February. The Australian Three
Peaks Race and Targa
Tasmania add excitement to April, the Suncoast
Jazz Festival brightens June, and Blooming
Tasmania’s botanical and floral delights bring touring
routes alive with colour from springtime to autumn. Whenever
you visit, you’ll find events, action, interest and excitement. (CLICK

House sits majestically on the shores of the River Derwent. |

Mount
Wellington
Mount Wellington
dominates Hobart's skyline. 1,271 metres high, it is one
of the tallest peaks in Tasmania and in winter it's often capped
in snow. It's mot hard to get to the top- a road goes straight
to the summit. Lots of people prefer to climb Mount Wellington
along one of the tracks but be ready for sudden changes in weather. Once
up there, feast your eyes on a spectacular view of the city and
the River Derwent. A fine reward for your effort. |

Tasmanian

Shopping
If
you are feeling a tiny bit guilty about shopping in Hobart,
call it a history lesson instead and go to Salamanca
Place. Salamanca Place was once a row of 1830's
sandstone warehouses with an important role to play in
port commerce. Today, the warehouses have been
perfectly preserved but they play a different role. They've
been reborn as cafes, restaurants, galleries, boutiques
businesses and an Arts Centre. The road is closed
on Saturday's for the Salamanca Market. 300 stalls
make this thriving |
