Tamar Valley Wine and Food
A
wineries
tour of the Tamar Valley is the perfect day
trip from Launceston, but to truly appreciate
the experience, you should consider spending
three days in the area.
The river banks of the
Tamar feature many boutique to medium-sized
vineyards and wine outlets, a number of which
have restaurants overlooking the peaceful
river and the lush rolling countryside that
surrounds it.
Grapes are picked in April and May – you
may even be able to help in the harvest. In
January, enjoy the distinctive flavour of
lavender cheese at the Lavender Festival. In
October and November, be sure to choose menu
items featuring locally grown asparagus.
From November to May dine alfresco on fresh
strawberries with King Island cream. And
all year round, enjoy discovering for yourself
the many wonderful boutique pinot noirs,
chardonnays, rieslings and sparklings available
throughout the valley.
