Tails flies Sonic and discusses how they haven't found any sign of Ixis Naugus.
Soon Tails approaches a mountain that is constantly burning. As the heat
begins to bother Sonic, Tails finds a village and flies down closer. Sonic
and Tails find a girl named Li
Moon and ask her for water. Li Moon apologizes, saying that the little
water they have is rationed. She continues to explain that the fire on the
mountain has burned constantly for over one hundred days. Tails asks why
they haven't moved, which upsets Li
Yuen, Li Moon's grandfather. Li Yuen explains that his people would
not obey the Iron King,
so king's wife, the Iron
Queen, set the mountain on fire with her dark magic. The flames can
be extinguished using the fan of Fen Xing, so Sonic decides to find it.
As Sonic and Tails head off on their journey, the Iron Queen watches and summons
Monkey Khan. Sonic decides to slow down because of the heat. Suddenly
dark clouds approach, and Monkey Khan appears. Sonic thinks that Monkey
Khan was an ally (from Sonic the Hedgehog
#55), but Monkey Khan begins to shoot bolts of electricity at Sonic and Tails.

Monkey Khan chases after Sonic and soon hops down from his cloud to face
Sonic. The Iron Queen appears, pleased with Monkey Khan's rage that
helps her control him. As Monkey Khan prepares to finish off Sonic,
Tails flies toward the Iron Queen's staff and breaks it into pieces.
The spell is lifted from Monkey Khan, and the Iron Queen flies away.
Tails picks up part of the Iron Queen's staff, which happens to be power
rings. Sonic figures that the Iron Queen used the rings to strengthen
her powers. Monkey Khan suggests that they may want to stop, but Sonic
says he wants to continue with their adventure.
Sonic, Tails, and Monkey Khan make their way into the sinister-looking
Iron Fortress. As they head for the weapons room, the Iron King appears,
ready to fight. Sonic orders Tails to find the fan as he and Monkey
Khan fight. Tails finds the fan and returns it to Sonic, who uses
it on the Iron King. The Iron King is blown away and Sonic, Tails,
and Monkey Khan return to the mountain. As they approach the mountain,
the Iron Queen returns. Sonic uses the fan on the mountain, extinguishing
the flame. The Iron Queen retreats and Sonic, Tails, and Monkey Khan
return to the village. Li Moon is overjoyed as her grandfather recalls
that the ancient prophesies foretold about a monkey king. Sonic is
upset that he did all the work but there was no prophesy about himself.

Sally approaches her father, who is ready for their long-overdue talk.
King Acorn believes that it is time he shows Sally something and takes her
through a secret passageway. Soon the two arrive at the link to the
Source of All, which Sally should have seen on her tenth commemoration.
King Acorn tells Sally that she must choose if she wants to rule over the
kingdom. If she does, she will be linked with the Source of All and
become the first female to do so. Sally is ready to accept her duty,
but her father says that there must also be a suitable king. Sally
replies that she is not ready to marry, and Sonic may feel the same.
King Acorn is furious that Sally has thought of marrying Sonic and explains
that the Source chooses the mate, which is how his wife was chosen.
The king says that Antoine D'Coolette will be a suitable husband. Sally
is furious and says that only she can decide who she will marry. King
Acorn threatens to take away Sally's duties and title away if she disobeys
him. Sally decides to go to bed before making her decision. King
Acorn agrees, but realizes that he needs to make sure he still has his back-up
plan.
