Originally from the grassy plains of The Shaar to the south, Malark and his followers had set up a small outpost for his kind so that they may trade and converse with the elves and other inhabitants within the forest. Over the years, their small outpost turned into a large den, housing more then 300 centaurs that have adopted the forest as one of their permanent homes. Mostly, the centaurs guard and watch the southern end of the forest, keeping it clear of any creatures that should wander down from the nearby Firesteap Mountains. They also keep an eye on the small human settlement of Torsh and closely watch the traveling merchants that make their way along The Old Road. Most of the centaurs are trained rangers thanks to Malark, who is the most accomplished ranger of them all. His tactics are legendary as they are told by all merchants that travel by areas of the forest that he is known to watch over. Always traveling in troops of 5-9, Malark is always armed and ready for trouble. He is known to employ his lance to devastating effects, taking out defensive barriers and causing confusion with defensive lines. With his Horseshoes of Speed, he likes to charge back and forth from different directions while his kin set up their attack from a far with bows. When he has his enemy hunkered down for a fight, Malark hangs back and uses his superb Composite Longbow with uncanny precision. When enemies are numerous and closing, his Longsword often makes quick work of them. Often, Malark will use his ranger spells to communicate with trees to discern the location and direction of the intruders to help plan attacks. If the invading group is small enough, he'll use entangle spells to make sure the fight is quick and painless. But more often then not, Malark, like all woodland creatures, would rather scare off intruders instead of killing them. The use of stamping their hooves at night or placing one or two magical traps at the forest edges along The Old Road. |
