John Ogden Shackelton Family
While researching John Ogden Shackelton, I found his last name spelled both ways, Shackelton and Shackleton. John is the first son of Benjamin Shackleton and Mary Ogden. I located a listing in the New Jersey Marriages (Internet database) for John Shackleton and Mary Wintermute. It seems that his wife's name varies throughout the years, I have seen her name listed as Anny Mary, Mary Anny, Mary and Maria. Anny Maria is the name that is used in The Shackleton book. However, because I find that she used the name Mary endlessly in records I will use the name Anny "Mary"  Wintermute for her.
John moved his family from New Jersey to Barton, New York sometime after 1824. It has been stated that John was a man of means and that his disowned his children before he died and wasted his money. I will ask the same question found in The Shackletons book, Could this be the reason for the change in the spelling of the last name?

iii. Margaret A., b. 25 December 1820 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey

iv. Jacob Wintermute, b. 11 August 1821 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey

v. Mary, b. 23 October 1825 in Knowlton Township, Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey

vi. Jane, b. 25 December 1828 in Barton, New York
vii. Robert Theodore, b. 20 May 1830 in Barton, New York

ix. John Ogden, Jr., b. 23 January 1837 in Barton, New York; d. 30 September 1862 in Helena, Arkansas. John Jr. enlisted in the 33 Regiment of volunteers; Company C., he died from typhoid fever and was buried with Military Honors at Helena, Arkansas
