My name is Kimberly Ann Shermeta-Mueller (just call me Kim) and I got into researching my family names because my children had an assignment in school to create a family tree and it just sort of caught on and one of my dear friends (thanks Steffy) also helped keep me interested. I was only doing this as a hobby, just like many other's out there, but it soon grew into more. Now I have thousands of names in my family tree and have found cousins from all over everywhere! I really became interested in this "hobby" because I never had the opportunity to know some of my family members that meant so much to others, and I wanted to know just where it was that my family originated from, the hardships they endured, and most of all to be able to help my children understand their family history. The Shackletons book stood out to me for two reasons: First, I was included in the book!! and Second, because the book and the newsletters were created all from family input. Bernice not only worked with the families to create the book, but she also created the newsletters. These newsletters were not her newsletters, they were OUR newsletters. With the our meaning that we sent in the information, pictures, recipies and what-not and she made sure that other members of the family knew about them. One letter to Bernice was really worth a thousand letters sent. She kept us all infomed about each other in her own special way.
I know that I could never do what Bernice has done for us, but this site is the one thing that I thought of that could help us give back to others who are searching what Bernice gave to us. This site is created for YOU, all members of the Shackelton and Shackleton families. But I need your help. I need input, stories, pictures, etc. Also, Bernice always wanted to find the connection with the American Shackeltons and the English and Irish Shackletons. So on top of sharing information with others, I am also attempting to research the "unconnected" lines and with your help maybe we can make them "connected" lines. Below is what I have managed to collect through YOUR help, please take a look and see if there is anything that YOU would like to have added, after all this is YOUR family website and it cannot be done without YOUR input and assistance.
Do to computer problems, I have lost all information other than what is on this website and in my family tree at Rootsweb. I also have lost any and all emails (including addresses).
