The heads are back from the machine shop



Back from the machine shop - 11/17/00

Here are the cleaned up pictures of the heads.

Work done so far:
1) Glass beading
2) Pressure testing/magnafluxing
3) Rocker stud holes drilled for 7/16" studs


Porting and polishing to be done next:
1) EXHAUST SIDE

a) Remove EGR bumps
b) Remove top part of exhaust port (raising the roof ~.100")
c) Polish areas where head bolts go through.
d) Polish sides.
e) Tear drop the valve stem post.
f) Polish bottom wall of ports.


2) INTAKE SIDE

a) Remove side of port (raising the roof ~.100")
b) Polish bottom side of port
c) Remove material to make inside of port even with opening. Do not make the outside dimension any bigger than it is. Careful around push rod through holes.
d) Remove rocker arm stud bumps.
e) In the center 2 ports only, reduce head bolt bumps.
f) Tear drop the valve stem posts.
g) Reduce bowl area. Air flow should be perpendicular to back of valve. Careful not to go through in this area.
h) Remove any bumps and make as smooth as possible.

3) COMBUSTION CHAMBER AREA

a) Remove the lip around the valves.
b) Remove bump next to the spark plug hole.
c) Remove material around intake valve, closest to the wall. Do not go any bigger than the gasket. This is a dead air area.
d) Polish the whole combustion chamber area.
Put next steps like - fill holes, bigger valves, etc.

4) NEXT STEPS AFTER PORTING AND POLISHING

a) Fill in the heat riser area.
b) Remove open area between the middle 2 exhaust ports, either by building up the divider or milling the entire exhaust face.
c) Cut for .5" valve seals.
d) Machine for bronze valve guides.
e) Deck the heads to desired CC volume.
f) Machine for bigger valves.
g) ETC...
