VOICE MODULATION

"HELLO" – When we say this five-lettered word, it’s the sound that makes a big difference. Your voice is the inner reflection of your soul. Every person has gifted with a voice, which one can modulate with the speech styles. The voice is the power within you. It has powers that make a person fall in love with you. Close your eyes and listen to the smooth husky flowing voice of ‘George Michael’ or a close friend and you can feel the calm like a breath of fresh air! Listen to the musical sensation of Ricky Martin’s ‘Cup of Life’ and one can feel the rush of excitement in life. Listen to the bold voice of late PM Rajiv Gandhi and you are sure to feel the concerns finding yourself in the midst of a debate getting aggressive and confident. A voice can make one ready for a battle of words, which can calm and seduce, provoke or silence, thrill and charge or can be electrifying. Voice has a special depth of thoughts and can influence your whole life as well as others. When you say ‘Hello’ the sound is like tinkling bell when you say it with softness and deep feeling but if you are harsh with your words, this means you are not towards the right track to road ahead of success. Words spoken with intelligence, words spoken with soft feelings, words spoken with understanding have an impact on the other with the voice powers. If you observe people talking, you can find the characteristics of the person, which can master you with ‘mind reading’. Voice can get you hired or fired or promoted too. A voice can make friends or foes. A voice bring love back into your life and a voice can make your work loads lighter when you are on heights of your job and the work stress is higher. A Free Soul Friend Siddharth says, " Voice is like a calm breeze which builds the faith and brings in the peace of mind." Vivek puts it this way that a voice should be pleasant that a person keeps talking to you but it also depends on one’s identity otherwise you are sure to be rejected with a bang of the receiver if you just call someone and say ‘Hi’. However this depends on the way you start your say, so he beams. Rohan too supports Vivek’s views on voice but Binal snaps back ‘Priya had a beautiful voice and talked for hours but she faced a rejection from me. What’s the point of hearing a beautiful voice when you can’t meet, says he!

Truly, Voice is a lovely gift that humans possess and as someone said "Speech is silver, silence is gold" – Speech is Silver but Silence speaks a thousand words and those thousand words when are accumulated comes out with an outburst, overflowing thoughts stored in the mind and than there is peace and calmness, isn’t this true?

Power Speak your way to success

Language is a gold mine, which makes a big Change. Dig deep into it, build your vocabulary and dive for unlimited treasure which has remained there untapped for a long time. Rediscover yourself with your own Speech. All words look great in cold print but do not sound the same when spoken aloud. So, the first step towards success is Reading Aloud. This enables to make you hear your own voice what you are reading. Than think of the better modulations of your voice. Focus on your speech and style. Pronunciations play a major role here. Sound is born in your own vocal voice chords. Let it rise through your chest, throat and mouth, bubble with enthusiasm and vigor effortlessly and lightly. Speech therapists focus on various methods. Free souls help your voice modulation with a few tips as per experiences.

Be soft spoken. Speak from the depth of your heart, speak your mind and feel your nerves pulsating the sound of your voice.

Be Energetic. Electrify the listener with your presentation. Don’t let butterflies quiver you and chase away the nervousness.

Mind your Language. Words have a meaning as well as topics do count a lot. Work on pronunciations and build vocabulary.

Talk sense. Avoid beating around the bush. Say clear, be brief and do not fumble. Confusion lands you and the listener into more confusion. Do not bluff or fool yourself but blur out sensibly even if words are not meant to be spoken. Use tact, speak truth but know realities too and act sensibly to it. Convince your listener.

Create Leadership air. Build an air of confidence with your speech. Start talking directly with the main topic using easy flow of jokes, comments or anecdotes. Some words are guaranteed to make people listen. Dig for knowledgeable words – it evokes curiosity, love, understanding, excitement, etc.

Presentation with style. Cultivate a positive attitude. Be positive, prepared and well aware. Work on memory improvement levels. Check your blues. Get mirror practice and check your expressions too. A smile with the speech takes you to miles.

Voice Modulation. The most important factor is voice modulation – pitch, tone and volume. Adjust the Bass, volume like the sound system. Start with soft notes. Good beginning is best otherwise it’s shrieking from the start. Feel humor; feel happy, calm and composed.

Expressions. They are most important as expressions reflect your inner feelings and your speech is based on your thoughts. Let your speech and expression be your asset as well as a good decent Dress code

Fortunately anyone can learn how to speak well in public. Luckily for you, however, few people try, so you can stand out from the crowd really easily.

Pitfalls to avoid

1.) Apart from the presentation itself, two foundations of sounding good are a good breathing technique and relaxation. Here are some common mistakes:

2.) Most people speak on a 'held' breath, and breathe out afterwards. This decreases the volume, because less air passes over the vocal cords and then out of the mouth. Holding your breath also contributes to tension and anxiety - muscles tense up and breathing becomes forced.

3.) Consider how your voice sounds to others. An interesting voice is lively. A monotonous tone will send the audience to sleep, and destroy your confidence.

4.) Speaking too fast is also a common problem. You may feel nervous, and thus rush through your speech, or you may just naturally speak faster than appropriate for a large audience.

5.) Relying too heavily upon visual aids. Remember that they are just that, visual aids. You are the presenter. People are here to hear you speak. Once you have finished using such an aid, turn it off. Otherwise it will distract the audience from your speech.

How to sound like a pro

Articulation goes hand-in-hand with speech speed. If you concentrate on pronouncing the words clearly, you will find yourself naturally slowing down, and people will be able to understand you better. As with any performance, without rehearsals you will never be a success. You will feel more confident if you know you have practiced your speech aloud, albeit in private.

Insider's tricks

The exercises below are designed to tackle common speech problems.

Yawn and take a deep breath, and imagine your lungs are expanding twice as far as they really do. You should feel you've taken in more air than normal. You are now using your diaphragm, the muscle that helps you control your breathing. Concentrate on using this to control your volume when speaking.

Breathe in through the mouth, allowing more air to reach your lungs in a shorter time. Work on letting your breath go (ie not speaking on a held breath) and speaking as you breathe out. This will naturally increase your volume, and, as a welcome side effect, will aid relaxation.

Alongside breath control goes throat control. It must be open and relaxed. This will allow the maximum amount of air to pass through it. Yawning helps relax the throat, and also demonstrates how far it can open. Having 'opened up' the throat, do not then fall into the trap of trying to use it! Focus your effort around the diaphragm. This is a much more effective producer of volume. Moreover, unlike the larynx, it will not become sore.

Your body's cavities can be optimized to create the greatest resonance, and therefore richness and volume of tone. Opening the throat helps, but you also pay attention to the mouth itself, which should be open. Humming will help you discover the cavities in your head and chest, which again can be utilized.

To enhance voice modulation, try 'creating' your words lower down, in the chest area. This will make them resonate more, and produce a warmer, richer tone. You'll be amazed how the voice pitch lowers automatically if you think sexy too!

Modulation will also be helped by better articulation. Speak in front of a mirror, and attempt to lip-read what you are saying. This will help you to emphasize your mouth shapes, using your jaw, lips, tongue and soft palate, and thus improve your sound quality.

If you follow these tips, you will sound like a pro, you will sound relaxed, you will be more relaxed and you may even find you enjoy yourself!

Giving presentations

If you'd like to escape giving your next presentation, think again. Giving presentations is an everyday business affair. Whether communicating to business associates, making formal presentations to industry experts or speaking one-on-one with potential clients, giving presentations is part of the responsibility of every employee.

Rather than avoiding your next presentation, below are a few things you can do to prepare for your upcoming presentations so you feel more comfortable and sound more effective.

Don't wait until the last minute to prepare. Last-minute preparation only adds an extra burden on you. Chances are more likely that you'll sound like you don't know what you're speaking about. You'll also feel less comfortable, since you're not as familiar with your presentation as you should be.

Understand your audience prior to writing or presenting the presentation. Research your audience and, based on the results, determine what kind of words and presentation that audience appreciates. For example, if you're speaking to analytical types, such as accountants or attorneys, include statistical data and, perhaps, the use of visual aids. If you're presenting to a younger audience, less visuals should be used. Instead, some kind of animation is necessary in order to keep their attention throughout the presentation.

When presenting to more than 25 people, maintain three eye contact points. Right before starting your presentation, you should scan the audience and determine at whom you'll be looking. It's easiest to choose people who have a neutral or friendly-looking face.

Convey every presentation in a conversational tone. Whether the talk is formal or informal, act as if you're speaking to two people in the room. This will automatically make your presentation sound more natural, instilling proper placement of pauses and good emphasis on words.

Find energy before presenting. If you're totally exhausted -- or you're not in the frame of mind to give your presentation -- you must find positive energy in order to give your presentation. Without this energy, there will not be passion, which is necessary in every presentation. If you're not passionate, why will the audience want to "buy into" your product or service?

Before writing your presentation, know the objective of the presentation and what kind of result(s) you're looking to achieve.

Convey the proper emotion. For example, a serious topic may be conveyed with a slower word pace, voice modulation and longer pauses throughout. Emotions can be conveyed through various public speaking tools.
