His Airness re-invaded sports world by perfect storm. Not as a 38-year old golfer nor as a trying hard professional baseball player.
This time Mike isn't wearing a Giorgio Armani sit acting as the Washington Wizards Basketball Operations President and co-owner, sitting at the lower box of the arena watching his goring turf struggle to win. No sir! This time MJ's not going to just sit down and look at his young talents crumble in the face of pressure like a bunch of lost sheeps. As an intelligent person, Mike knew that they needed a shepherd whose rod and staff could comfort them and whose presence can lead them towards the light --- to victory of course.
The Wizards awful fate may have triggered Mike's restless competitive spirit or perhaps it was his extreme love for basketball. There were lots of speculations about MJ's second return, but like NBA commissioner David Stern, I'm sure glad he's back.
Afterall, he's the best endorser who could soar the US economy to greater heights. And that is just one of Mike's numerous talents.
Lots of sports analysts and basketball fans, including myself, thought that it was a foolish move.
Shaq himself said that had he wanted to retire someday, it would be in Jordanesque fashion ---- leaving the game graciously and victoriously.
But Mike thought otherwise.
And perhaps, he's right. Maybe, Jordan the President's greatest move yet was to activate Jordan the Player himself.
Although he gained a few pounds, his face a bit older and his speed and agility may have dwindled a bit, the name, the Michael Jordan charisma and yes the magical smile and tongue-wagging are all still there and remain untainted.
Yes, age would surely slow him down and Kobe, Iverson, Vince and Co. all want a piece of His Airness. They all want to humble the Great One and Mike is quite aware of all this and he's up to the challenge.
He will have his share of ups and downs, probably more downs but what truly sets apart Michael Jordan from all other great basketball players in his strength of character. There will be bloody wars yet his head would remain unbowed and every step of the way, we'll be there for you, Mike!
