The drop shot and drop volley are used by most players when they are tired or unsure, mostly it would have been better to wait a little longer before playing it.

No city meet for local athletes

Not for lack athletes.

Poor grades and attendance record of prospective varsitarians were the main reasons why Philippine Science High School Western Visayas withdrew its participation from the city meet this year.

According to Mr. Roy Pacaco, adviser of the Sports Development Council of the school, the scholars are fully aware of the agreement that participation in the athletic competitions will depend on their academic performance and attendance.

"Unfortunately, even if we have athletes who have good records, they cannot complete a team in say, basketball or volleyball," lamented Mr. Pacaco who also serves as the school's representative in the Iloilo City School Sports Council meetings in behalf of the school director.

The school expected to organize contingents in basketball, volleyball, chess, gymnastics, lawn tennis, and badminton.

"With this experience, probably the students will cooperate with us next school year," Mr. Pacaco added. PSHS students are all on scholarship. One failing grade at the end of the school year or poor attendance may result in termination of scholarship.

"We cannot sacrifice the students' scholarship that is why we have to ensure that students who participate in these activities have good academic performance," asserted Mr. Edgar Almero, academic chief of the school.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Cerla Duarte and Mr. Rolando Libutaque, both Physical Education teachers, served as officials in the city meet held November 21 to 24 at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

Mrs. Duarte who also sits as member of the board of directors of the Iloilo City School Sports Council, was the tournament manager in gymnastics while Mr. Libutaque was assistant chief time keeper.

The ICSSC is composed of the Division of Iloilo City, West Visayas State University. Western Visayas College of Science and Technology and PSHSWVC.

Mrs. Ida Endonila, superintendent of city schools, chairs the council.

"We have outstanding athletes in the campus. The only problem is either their grades or their attendance," Mr. Pacaco said.
