Green Plains Rhacos Stable

Green Plains is the name of the rhacos boarding stable in Joyeuse. At present, six rhacos owners who live in the city board their war-birds here. Iterant knights and others with the birds tend to keep them close, say at the inns stables. The rhacoi here belong to citizens.

Green Plains is owned and operated by Josephine Berinne. She has lost two fingers to her career. Jo is a younger daughter of a knight and, rather than apply for a courtly position or a fief as a Knight of the Road, decided to make her skill at rhacos-handling pay off. Her family is somewhat embarrassed that she does the work of a stable-boy herself, but Jo insists that she can find few good employees who can safely work with the rhacoi. She vaguely misses her old life and occasionally thinks that she will leave Joyeuse and seek a warriors position elsewhere. As she gets older, this becomes less and less likely.

Six rhacoi are currently boarded at Green Plains:

Lightening is an older bird, the gracefully decaying possession of an elderly knight who has come to Joyeuse. Sir Rosanna has allowed her daughter to inherit and spends her retirement listening to song and writing bad verse.

Maidens Spear (aka Spear) belongs to a knight errant who lodges in Joyeuse. Young and idealistic, Sir Alora comes and goes from Joyeuse, using it as a base for her monster-hunting and wrong-righting activities.

Glory is a young, healthy bird who loves to run. Claude Argento is the equally young owner who enjoys racing Glory outside the city.

Honor is Glorys nest-mate. Claude purchased both when they were young, but quickly gave Honor to his close friend Esteve Rostand. Esteve also enjoys racing, and Jo has overheard the two spinning plans about popularizing rhacos racing as a sport a less violent alternative to a joust.

Sugarplum is an old, mean, calculating creature with spite and malice in his eye. Sugarplums owner died two years back and no one ever came to claim him. Jo has kept the bird on as her personal pet project. The project has not gone as well as it could Sugarplum was the bird who took Jos fingers.

Trumpet is a large and stocky bird, the sort favored by large (usually male) riders. Trumpet does in fact belong to Lord Blaise, a beared bear of a man and the only one of Joyeuses ladies who seems to take an (occasional) active interest in governing. He rides Trumpet on occasions of state.
