While the nearby town of Keizer has the local big organized Christmas lights display, Salem has some pretty good Christmas displays of its own, scattered about town. This photo is of an annual display seen at S. Commercial where it meets Liberty, at the law offices of Gatti, Gatti, Maier, Sayer & Associates. My Christmas light photography obviously needs some work, but this is my start of them.
My very own historical photo. This is the Maritime Festival held on July 4, 1982, in Portland, just downriver from Salem. The two masted schooner on the right is the old Pride of Baltimore, which sank a few years later. The two sailboats along the wall are Adventuress and Odysee.
Beneath the surface of my favorite swimming hole on the Little North Santiam River. As you can see, the water is quite clear, with lots of nice fat trout, but oh is the water cold early in the season. This shot was take in late July when hypothermia won't set in for several hours. My camera was one of those little 1-use underwater cameras.
A. C. Gilbert House Discovery Village. A. C. Gilbert was the inventor of the erector set. His Salem home is now the setting of a delightful interactive children's museum and toy hall of fame. If you have children of any age, this is a place you want to visit while in Salem.
Another shot of Gilkey Bridge in nearby Linn County. There is an interior shot of this bridge in Gallery 5.
More of the Salem Carrousel, located very near the A. C. Gilbert discovery Village.
Details of the Salem Carrousel. Each panel has unique artwork depicting area themes. The cherries are emblems of Salem, "The Cherry City."
