'Akim's Place or Rumahakim in Batu Rakit Terengganu

Rumah Yamin is a Malay wooden village house, built on stilts, with timber floor boards. There is no ceiling but there is a nice ventilation vents all along the roof and walls. The corrugated roof sheets have been painted white on the bottom, increasing the brightness within the house itself. The timber windows stretch from top to bottom, reminiscent of French windows.

The 3 bedrooms have walls of simple plywood partitioning, complete with assorted beddings and electric wall fans. There is a large hall room enough to accommodate as many as 20 sleeping on mats or camp-beds There's a ceiling fan here..

There is a verandah alongside half the front of the house which we fondly call our lepak area (see customs) There is a spacious kitchen equip with a fridge, a single ring gas burner and a dining table seating 7, and exits into a small verandah where the locals would eat their breakfast and even prepare their food. The cement finished toilet area has 2 toilets and 1 shower chamber and a big Kolam (see customs)

Rumah Yamin, is surrounded by coconut trees, faces the sea which is about 100 meters away like all the other properties on that stretch. The beach itself, probably 30 miles long, is cleaned every year by the monsoons.
