The Catamaran

In 1998, Rumah Yamin adopted a partially built 32ft catamaran from a slimy river in Penang off Brickiln road.  after it was dismantled and sent by trailer to Terengganu

At the end of March 2000, a team of volunteers supported by Uncle Ah Choy and his foundry exquipment, are scheduled to finish securing the frame of the cat, and to attempt to float it in order to determine the waterline.

This is so that Uncle Ah Choy can build the outboard motor mounting in its accurate position. 

Hakim was instrumental in then putting the boat back into better shape.  Some fibreglass work was done, and extensive stainless steel space frames were constructed and attached to the two hulls. 

This was decked with strips of a heavy wood not unlike chenggal of which the name evades me and the hull recoated with layers of epoxy gelcoat. All this was probably in mid 1998. 


Sitting nice and pert on old car tyres, the cat is is dubbed "kapal selang" by the locals. 
The Maiden Voyage of the cat is scheduled for 27th May 2000 and all are invited to contribute to the dubbing of the boat.
