Other Interests
This is the page where I will tell of my other interests - maybe someday I will devote an entire page to each of them, but for the present, a paragraph, or so, will suffice.
I have a reasonable interest in computers.  I've had computers for years, but didn't always use them to their fullest capacity.  The first "computer" I owned was a Commodore 64, but it was rarely used as such.  I did a little "programming" with it, but all I had for "storage" was a cassette drive, and it was a colossal pain to use.  However, I did buy several game cartridges and played games on it.   :-)

My next computer was a used IBM PS/1 - affectionately named the "pincushion" by a friend in Valdosta, Georgia.  The "pincushion" was in reference to the fact that its hard drive had MASSIVE amounts of "bad" memory, and probably resembled something akin to perforated paper.  But, bad memory and all, I was able to use the PS/1 pretty well, and, with some help (Thanks, Louis), I learned alot about DOS, directory and file management, and alot of other basic computer skills.  But, alas, one day the IBM PS/1 had lived a long and productive life, and it was time for it to go to that great cyberspace in the sky.

I now own and use a Micron PII 266.   Granted, by todays standards (which don't remain standard for very long), it is a slow machine, but it works very well for my purposes.  I use it constantly (almost) for school work, internet stuff (research and general surfing), and chatting with family and friends.  At some point, it will be nice to upgrade to a faster machine with a few more bells and whistles (a CD-RW especially), but for the time being, I will stick with what I have.
I also enjoy movies.  While I don't go the movie theater very often, I am a fairly regular customer at the local video store.  I have to want to see a film ALOT to endure the movie theater "experience".  Granted, it isn't always that bad, but I despise going to the theater and having to put up with screaming children, other people talking, etc, etc.   Anyway, these days I can rent (or buy) the video, take it home and (with the help of a HiFi VCR, and a fairly decent sound system) have a great movie "experience".   One of these days I hope to own a DVD player, but, at present, I am a student and don't have a MAJOR supply of cash to spend on new electronic gadgetry.   I don't really have ONE favorite film - but have one or two (or maybe more) that I really like within a certain category of movie (comedy, drama, etc).   Here are a few of them.

Comedy - "Airplane", "Blazing Saddles", "Caddyshack", "Monty Python and the Holy
                Grail", "Wag the Dog", "Bulworth"

Sci-Fi - "2001: A Space Odyssey", "The Fifth Element", "Alien" & "Aliens"

Drama - "On Golden Pond", "Ordinary People"

Horror/Suspense - "The Haunting" (the original from the 1960s), "Halloween"
I also enjoy cooking (and eating).  I take spells with my cooking and usually just go for the basics for meals - I don't really get into cooking large meals unless I am having company for dinner.   Thanksgiving and Christmas would be the major exceptions to this.   I thoroughly enjoy cooking for family get-togethers around the holidays.   I also like to prepare Christmas goodies (as my family and friends already know).   A few "specialties" would be chocolate-covered pretzels, rum balls, fruitcake cookies, Rice Krispy treats.  But, recently I found out that I have Type II diabetes, so I will have to enjoy the cooking aspect more (and do less of the eating part).   Oh well, age creeps up on you and thoroughly screws up the works.        :-)
