Words of Wisdom:
Read through this web site thoroughly
Be visible in the CAP Office. I have an open door policy and welcome your questions. If you find me hard to track down  - e-mail me.
Read your e-mails!!! If you are not receiving my e-mails, it is your responsibility to advise me as soon as possible.
Save everything  if you throw  it away we can almost guarantee you will need it sometime in the future  Make copies of those items that you mail for your records.
You can gain considerable knowledge about colleges and universities from the Internet and the many guide books available in the CAP Office, libraries and at bookstores. Our favorite guides for facts about academic programs, extracurricular offerings, and admissions standards include: Peterson?s, Barron's, and The College Handbook.. For   subjective guides, we recommend The Fiske Guide to Colleges or The Insider's Guide to Colleges. (Students particularly enjoy these last two guides.)
All college information sessions will be announced with   the date, time, College/University on the College Advising page on the web   and on the bulletin board in the College Advising Office.
Fill out your applications for SAT I/SAT II tests the same way every time inserting a middle initial can confuse a computer  and cause you grief. REGISTER EARLY or you might not get your required test site!! Krop fills up quickly!!!
The code for Dr. Michael M. Krop High School is 101545.  Use this code on EVERY SAT I,   SAT II, PSAT, and ACT registration. The SAT test center code for MKHS is   101424.
Identify those colleges (particularly selective institutions) that have specific testing and course requirements early in the   process.
For questions about financial aid contact the CAP Office and consult the Financial Aid section of this site.
If you have a special talent - music, drama,   athletics - pursue that interest with each college. This is not the time to be modest. If the admissions committee doesn't know about your talent, they can't possibly react to it.
Make appointments for interviews early. (June is a   good time, even for an October interview). Missing school for college visits   and interviews is not advisable, however, may be approved, so plan to use   late July and August, the week before school, and any long weekends. By   mid-September some schools are booked completely for on-campus interviews.
Application Fee Waivers are available on the same basis as SAT I/SAT II Fee Waivers. You must be on frere or reduced lunch to qualify for these fee waivers. See me in the CAP Office for a fee waiver..
For additional pages which you attach to your application, always supply your NAME, SOCIAL SECURITY #, DATE OF BIRTH, as well as the QUESTION #.
Treat each application as if that school is your first choice.
Remember that if your college requires a mid-year report, please make sure that your counselor receives the required report in a timely manner. Also, if your application is still in review, remember that it is very helpful to your case if you send a mid-year report when they come available. In many cases, this has helped the applicant.
Make copies of everything: applications, essays, financial aid forms. It is your   responsibility to make copies for your files of your completed application.   Remember that it is very important to follow-up on all materials mailed to confirm that your college has received them.
