Visiting Colleges
The College Visit and Interview:
Hints for a Successful     Visit
The Interview Before you go?   As part of the CAP program, students are encouraged to visit the campuses of college and universities of interest to them. While there are situations where little advance notice may be known, in the greater majority   of cases advanced planning is what makes the trip of value.

While MKHS approves of such trips, only those  which receive authorization will be considered as excused absences.  Authorization will generally be given only for those trips which are planned a minimum of two weeks in advance. Authorization also will be limited to no more than five class days per year. You may pick up the Request to be Absent Form, from the CAP Office.  You must complete the form and have all your teachers and your parents sign the form. Completed forms are to be turned into administration for final approval.

A few tips:

Arrange for an appointment in advance by writing or calling the College/University Admissions Office. Try to schedule appointments which do not conflict with major tests at school.

You will get the best view of the college if you arrange your visit when college classes are in regular session. Generally a week day, but not a Friday, is the best time to get a feel for the school.

Study the school's Internet website, catalog, and your own record of achievement to be sure that the college really seems acceptable to you, and that you might be acceptable to it.

Take with you a record of the courses you have completed and are currently taking, the grades earned, and your college entrance examination scores to date if you have an interview scheduled.

Feel free to meet with your CAP advisor before you leave to discuss what to expect during an   interview, and to review ways to receive the information about the school you are seeking, while also creating a good impression.
