Happy Anniversary by Larry Fitch Wow. One year already. I can't quite believe it. Who would have thought that something that started out as a chance to relieve some writing frustrations would turn into a monthly eZine that is currently being viewed by almost seven thousand people a month. To celebrate our anniversary we felt that there was no better place to go than back to the ranch and enjoy the hospitality of Shane and Karen Smith, and the camaraderie of fellow long distance riders. And as you will see in our story, we were not disappointed. A lot of things have happened to us in this last year. Some good, some bad. But through it all there have been a core group of folks who have helped us to make it all happen each month and I would like to use this month's column to recognize and thank these people. Let me start by giving a huge thanks to my friend and fellow Rollin' producer Steve Mate. It was Steve's prodding of me to write about the Boil last year that got this rag started in the first place. Steve and I have logged many hours together on two wheels this last year and there is absolutely no way this eZine would publish each month without him. Thanks Steve! Next up on my list is Terry Brown, our photographer and my personal advisor. Terry reluctantly joined our merry little band after I sufficiently brow beat him into submission. His photographic skills are amazing and, like Steve, I have had the pleasure of logging many miles on the road with him. If you have been with us for awhile, then you have seen the results of his camera prowess. Terry, you truly are a great friend and I am happy to count you among my closest. Bruce Barge is next on the hit parade. We first met Bruce through Terry and within the first five minutes of talking with him, I had laughed harder than I had in quite some time. When I found out that Bruce was posting emails of his long distance adventures on various mail lists, I knew he had to start writing for us. He agreed and has continued to be a hit month after month. Those of you who know Bruce will understand why I consider myself fortunate to know him and call him my friend. All of us here at Rollin' wish him the very best as he competes in this year's Iron Butt Rally. Every group of riding buddies needs at least one person who is overly safety conscious. Within our group, that honor falls to Ray Palubin. Around here we refer to Ray as our Flight Line Safety Officer. His commitment and dedication to a safe ride is an inspiration to us all and his heads-up attention to things on the road has more than once saved our bacon. Thank you Ray for all your efforts and all your contributions. Once again, I am lucky to have friends like you. The last person on my list of regulars is also the latest addition to the Rollin' staff. Lauranne Bailey, our lone female correspondent came to us by way of a posting I made on her website, Women in the Wind. I was looking for a female rider and writer to replace our previous one, and Lauranne stepped up to the plate and hit one out of the park. If you have been following her series concerning her long journey to Canada and back, then you know just how wonderful her writing is. Thanks to you "Biker Betty" Of course, I certainly do not want to forget all the rest of you out there who have contributed to our eZine over the last year. There are just too many to mention here, but you know who you are. My deepest thanks to you for all your efforts. Lastly, Steve and I would like to thank all of you who have discovered our eZine over the past year and have been coming back each month to see what is new. From our first issue to now, we have watched our readership steadily grow. We were so excited the first month because we had 500 people give us a look. Now, over seven thousand of you come to our pages and over 500 of you have thought enough about Rollin' to become regular subscribers. To all of you, Steve and I humbly say thanks. You are the reason we do this and the reason we are successful. With this first issue of the new year, we are introducing some changes in the look of the eZine, but not in the content. You can still expect to get the latest in national events, stories from the road, and all the other features you have come to enjoy. So dive right in and start reading.. And thanks again! Take care and ride safe. Larry “SideShow” Fitch Editor in Chief Rollin' eZine |
