AMA Crossroads Rally Set For July

There’s really only one place to be this July if you're a motorcyclist: the first annual AMA Crossroads Rally.  Set in north central Ohio, close to Amish country, Lake Erie and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the rally is a must-do on your summer riding schedule. It’s sandwiched between two of the best motorcycling events you’ll find anywhere—the July 13-15 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at nearby Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, and the July 20-22 round of the AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship, also at Mid-Ohio. The rally itself will be based at the Ashland County Fairgrounds in Ashland, Ohio, just 20 miles from the racetrack.

New Southern Appalachian Motorcycling Guidebook Now Available

For years, motorcyclists around the world have known of the classic motorcycling rides in the Southern Appalachians—routes like "The Dragon" at Deal’s Gap on the TN-NC border, and Georgia's Highway 60 north of Dahlonega. Recently the spectacular Cherahola Skyway between Robbinsville, NC and Tellico Plains, TN has been added to the list. But while motorcyclists flock to these well-known rides, many are unaware of other great routes nearby.

These riders won't be unaware for long. A new guidebook from Milestone Press titled Motorcycle Adventures in the Southern Appalachians includes all the classic rides as well as some of the best kept secrets of southern motorcycle touring.

Written by former metro Atlanta motorcycle policeman Hawk Hagebak, the new guide takes readers and riders to destinations that include the beautiful waterfalls of Highlands, NC, the 360-degree views from Brasstown Bald in north Georgia, and Tennessee's Ocoee River Gorge. Along the way he visits motorcycle-only establishments like Toosy's and T.W.O. motorcycle resort, takes in the Bavarian ambience at Helen, GA, and stops to look at the ancient native American petroglyphs at Track Rock.

Each description includes a map, complete directions, road conditions, restaurants, and how to get to the start of the ride, along with points of interest and other activities available en route. A large appendix lists services, motorcycle-friendly lodging, and other amenities for motorcyclists visiting the region.

Motorcycle Adventures in the Southern Appalachians retails for $12.95 and is available now at motorcycle shops, selected bookstores, and on the web at www.milestonepress.com. It can also be ordered direct from the publishers for $16.95 postpaid by writing Milestone Press, PO Box 158, Almond, NC 28702, or by calling 828-488-6601.
