Things People Eat

When we talk about animals, we can't help but think about food at times. The museum actually has an exhibit specially prepared to show the differing organisms that we use as medicinal herb and foods. More familiar examples range from birds nest and sharksfin to cordyceps and lallang. The more obscure types. however, include water monitor lizards, cockroaches and geckos. How many types of 'foods' do you recognise here?

While this exhibit shows one of the economic benefits of biodiversity and its conservation, one should also be aware of the fact that uncontrolled or poorly managed harvesting of wildlife for food is also a major threat.  For example, overharvesting of fish might cause the hastening of extinction of that certain species due to the great demand of it by man.  Thus one should always aware of what his needs are, and try not to go overboard and ruin the natural environment about him.
