Surprising Singapore
| Now, let's look at the fauna of Singapore. Though small, Singapore has once been the home of many large mammals. However, due to urbanisation, what we have now is but a glimmer of the past. This exhibit, aptly named 'Surprising Singapore', serves to let us re-live the past and understand the present, by showing us animals that were once about in Singapore. Exhibits include a tiger, which is now locally extinct after being hunted down in the late 19th to early 20th century, the last one being killed in 1930, and the leathery turtle, which has only been sighted once in Singapore waters, at Siglap in 1883. |
