New Discoveries

After seeing the discoveries of Raffles, we now progress onto modern day discoveries. In Southeast Asia, many fishes and insects have been discovered in recent years, and even two large deer-like beasts. However, the most important and astonishing discovery is that of the Indonesian Coelacanth, Latimeria menadoensis. Having proved it to be a different species from the already known Indian Ocean Coelacanth, its discovery is an important one. Aside from that, many other creatures still wait to be discovered, even here in Singapore!

The Coelacanth has only been recently discovered, and it is reputed to represent a "missing link" between fish and amphibians.
