DEVOTION LEADERSHIP INTEGRITY PATIENCE HUMOR TECHNOLOGY |
Evolution: PatienceWhen you least expect it, you begin to understand. I do consider myself an extremely patient person. It hasn't been without its disappointments.
Nevertheless, I've continued to plug away through what I want to achieve, through the tasks set at hand,
and a few trials by fire. None of this comes easy, it's not meant to be.I know I will finish. I believe
that whatever is going to happen will happen. I play my game the best way I know how. Up until about a
few years ago, I would have balked at the notion of being called a passivist, but I am. To counter this
state, I pride myself on being an exceptional leader.
Understanding
that a wait to get all facts together to make a descion in either direction, is often lost to the raw
emotion that can occur, that I've often seen.
Patience is the quality that a leader
cannot be without; patience is the virtue that gives freedom to the artist within.
Stories Ode to Architecture Written to respond to a 6th grade question: What do Architects do? An architect is an artist who opts to use our world as their canvas. Sculpting a place for us to work, live and play they draw, build and design inside and out. The hand of an architect never stops moving and neither do their eyes. They are looking for new ways to see the same thing and can envision a building from below, above and sometimes what isnt there. An architect is a mathematician, estimating costs of materials for a building, estimating sizes of structural elements. They arent afraid of Euclidean Geometry, the raw shapes and perceptual elements directing the attention of those that will walk in the building and around it. An architect is a communicator. From proposals to legal documents, an architect knows how to command the written word as well as the spoken word to convince as many people that they are right as a project progresses. The communication starts as professional prose, but can be simple and elegant enough for a layman. And the piles of drawings are yet another form of communication. Be they construction documents for the building department and the contractor to the drawings that illustrate the intended vision these are only part of the tools that an architect might use. An architect is an embracer of technology. While it is easy to believe that technology may just be the desktop computer, technology is also the ability to take a three-inch cable to hold up a Kevlar membrane to be a roofing element. After all, the arch, the dome and the column all led to the creation of the skyscraper and the cable suspended bridge. An architect is the first nature lover. Nature was the worlds first architect. From the tree to the caves along a sea coast to the spider and its craftily spun web, we see order and structure. Though the main purpose has always been to protect humans from the elements of nature, nature might also be incorporated or salvaged to make a place better for today and tomorrow. An architect is a historian documenting civilizations progress. From buildings that live on that cannot be destroyed to those that are deemed relevant to the history of society, the buildings that remain tell a story, the mark of achievement. An architect has a thirst for life. They are able to question lifes very existence and then make the experience of living on earth better the next day. It is a commitment to improving that base standard that continues the drive to make the short time a living being occupies the planet that drives the architect. And lastly, an architect is a dreamer envisioning life today and tomorrow. Flying cars and teleportation devices are only a heartbeat away from being weaved into our social structure. An architect helps facilitate these visions, either with furniture or even who whole rooms dedicated to their usage. -RHM 200302.28
You drove away that last day we lived together. I had helped you to the car with your remaining boxes,
the ever-dutiful friend.
I didnt know back then that you never wanted my crush, but your lips turned soft as I approached them
with my own.
A shattered memory now drifts over every encounter, begging for hope that what has passed is only that
of a dream.
Separated by miles, I take comfort in the fact that we shall not see each other save for those few
chance meetings that only true
friends save for each other. -RHM 200304.15 dedicated to KRK, may love find you in due time.
There is a place in the heart, that shall never be touched just upon a lark.
It matters not the number of times youve been forsaken.
Though never fooled again, one may wonder when the heart does bend. -RHM 200307.28 In heightened anticipation of seeing you there,
Shyly, I look over and a smile touches my lips;
And in my arms I know by the graces you've given me a
-RHM 200401.08 I pay my fare and take a seat. Theres an extra space and I imagine you with me. It doesnt matter if the bus is full or empty: my arm would be around your shoulders protectively as we bump along the road. The driver would be mildly distracted by our presence; wed share knowing grins but neither of us would do anything more than sit close. As the world blurs by, you lean against me. You know you dont have my full attention, Im people watching and keeping reference of the major landmarks but that doesnt bother you. It is just the moments were spending together that matters the most. The sky is partly cloudy with the kind of fluffy cottony clouds that could carry angels. And they slink through the sky in solitary tumbleweed fashion, no particular direction and no particular purpose other than to absorb the vibrant blue sky. If wishing stars are for lovers at night, during the day, when Im thinking about you the most, I know this cloud could carry my thoughts to you. My stop is just around the corner between the dealership and an empty lot. No one is waiting at the bus stop, and the bus is empty. I look to the empty seat beside me, expecting to find you, but only the desire to help you out of the seat next to me sits there. As the bus trundles away to find its next stop, I look back up and send this on that cloud that followed me from the bus stop to this one. One sky to protect us all, and one dream that will come true when were ready. I linger just for a moment and then a gust of wind takes away the cloud, as if it finally has a purpose. -RHM 200403.30 |
