The answer may suprise you. Wikipedia defines wilderness as: Wilderness is generally defined as a natural environment on Earth that has not been modified by human activity. However, when the particular idea that I am currently writing about struck me, I thought of wilderness to mean something more. Reading on in the wiki article about wilderness, it dives into the origins of the word, and its original meaning: The word's etymology is from the Old English wildeornes, which in turn derives from wildeor meaning wild beast (wild + deor = beast, deer) (The Collins English Dictionary, 2000). From this point of view, it is the wildness of a place that makes it a wilderness. The mere presence or activity of people does not disqualify an area from being "wilderness." The entire earth is a wilderness, and one must always take special precations in that kind of place... Of course, the downs are anything and everything that has to do with Korea. And of all the ups, there is no doubt in my mind that the choking incident tops the list. Looking back at the last 12 months, I would not like to know where I would be without the experiences we have had. Napoleon, Hitler, Alexander, the list goes on. Growing up in the tropical climate of Florida, I really didn't get to experience it growing up, but here in South Korea, it is a drastic change that is ever so gradual.
