Maiden's Sutra Nei Gong has nine stages but in order to practice it, there must be nothing to hinder that outward flow of chi. This means that they must train without any clothes on. (NOTE: The kung fu of Ancient Tomb Sect is created for women. Its delicate movements speaks of gentle grace rather than of brute strength. Yang Guo being a man creates a big problem for Xiao Long Nuu. Because of the difference in their sexes, she is hesitant to pursue Maiden's Sutra.)

     One day,
Yang Guo goes out into the forest to look for food when he sights a tall flower garden. He immediately runs back to his Gugu and tells her that it is the perfect place for them to practice Maiden's Sutra for the flower hedges would prevent them from seeing each other's bodies.

Thus, every evening for two months,
Yang Guo and Long go there to practice. Finally, Yang Guo reaches the sixth stage while Long is about to complete the seventh. (NOTE: This stage is so delicate that even a slight interruption could kill her.) Yang Guo promises to watch over her and protect her with his own life.

Everything goes well for a while until he hears voices arguing. He recognizes the two as Taoists,
Yin Zhi Ping and his former teacher, Zhao Zhi Jing. The latter is accusing Yin of breaking the Taoist code of conduct for thinking amorously about Long.

Yin, who desires to be head of All True Sect (Quan Zhen) one day, naturally denies the allegation but Zhao shows him a note with Long's name on it. The handwriting belongs to Yin. His shameful secret now discovered, Yin draws out his sword, intending to kill the malicious Taoist. As they fight, they come dangerously close to where Long is and Yang Guo is forced to show himself.

     He palms
Zhao Zhi Jing, pushing him violently and tells him to leave at once. At that instant, a flower branch bends and grazes Long's cheek and yet even with this slight touch, she cries out in pain. Her internal organs have been severely injured. With her cry, the Taoists are alerted to her presence for the first time. When they see that she has no clothes on, they mistakenly conclude that she is having an affair with Yang Guo.
