As the fight begins, Huang Rong quickly gains the upperhand. Then suddenly, she experiences a sharp pain in her abdomen and she crumples down to the ground. She raises her hand weakly to defend herself from Huo Du and as she does so, her grip loosens and the stick flies across the room towards where Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nuu are standing.
Huo Du laughs, belittling Huang Rong and the Beat the Dog Stick Styles. He orders Yang Guo to hand him the stick so he could break it in two. As he does this, he calls the attention of the whole room unto Yang Guo and his beautiful companion.
Xiao Long Nuu is unused to people staring at her so she whispers to Yang Guo that they should leave. But Yang Guo has seen what happened to his surrogate aunt, Huang Rong and wants to get back at Huo Du. When Long learns who Huang Rong is, she agrees.
Yang Guo steps into the arena. When Guo Jing realizes what he intends to do, he tries to stop him, still believing that he does not know any kung fu. But Yang Guo quickly establishes his skill in Beat the Dog Stick Styles, shocking Guo Jing and Huang Rong completely.
He does not fight seriously at first, playing with Huo Du and making fun of him. Furious, Huo Du tries to hit him with his fan but Yang Guo uses the lightness kung fu of Ancient Tomb Sect (Gumu Bai) to escape. He jumps and lands on the ledge above the hall. Huo Du is surprised with his soaring skills and asks him who his master is.
Yang Guo steps down from the ledge and issues a challenge of his own. If he wins the match, his master would become Head of Wulin . Again, Huo Du asks who taught him martial arts. Yang Guo laughs and points to where Xiao Long Nuu is standing behind the column.#
