After the training, Yang Guo hears Huang Rong and Guo Jing talk about his father, Yang Kang, and how he died miserably in Iron Spear Temple. Yang Guo's interest is piqued but the couple's conversation moved on to Guo Fu's unspoken betrothal to Yang Guo.
(NOTE: The Yang and Guo family of South Song has always had an alliance. The alliance was strengthened when Guo Jing and Yang Kang became sworn brothers. But with Yang Kang's death, the alliance was broken and Guo Jing plans on repairing it by marrying his daughter to Yang Guo.)
This piece of information unsettles Guo Fu and riles her two suitors, the Wu brothers. They look at Yang Guo with even more displeasure, now that he appears to be their rival for Guo Fu's hand in marriage.
Later that night, Huang Rong officially abdicates her position and appoints Lu You Jian as her successor. After this ceremony, Guo Jing speaks to the crowd about the onset of Mongolian rule in China. He urges them to fight and prevent the Mongolians from entering South Song.
At that instant, the door suddenly opens and in comes the Mongolian Prince Huo Du and his army. He is also accompanied by two strange individuals who are both monks. One is a tall thin monk whose head is bald. The other is a hulking giant carrying a large pole.#
