ABSTRACT
The Grand Trunk Trail Committee of St. Mary's, Ontario, has proposed
the development of a recreational trail along the abandoned Grand Trunk
Rail Line in the town of St. Mary's, Ontario. The purpose of this trail
will be;
"to convert the former Grand Trunk Railway line to a multipurpose,
accessible trial to compliment the surrounding environment, aesthetically
restore the "Sarnia Bridge", allow safe crossing of the Thames River, provide
a panoramic view of the town, and link with the existing River View Walkway."
The purpose of this study is to "take stock" of the natural features and
values associated with the development of this trail and to make suggestions
concerning the linkage of this trail with the established River View Walkway.
In order to "take stock" of the natural features along the abandoned Grand
Trunk Railway line, the River View Walkway, and adjoining areas, an inventory
and assessment of vascular flora and vegetation communities was conducted.
Although some recommendations are made concerning the development of
the proposed Grand Trunk Trail, it is not the purpose of this report to
provide a detailed development and management plan for the establishment
of this trail. Recommendations will attempt to focus upon the incorporation
of natural features and values identified from the inventory and assessment.
