METHODOLOGY
This botanical inventory is a compilation of all species observed within the study area (see Physical and Historical Background for study area description). As the study area is essentially a narrow linear band of vegetation, the inventory was compiled by tabulating all vascular flora observed while traversing the study area. Field work for the inventory was completed on August 12th, 14th, and September 1st, and 16th and represents approximately 32 hours of inventory work. The inventory work on the 16th of September was completed with the assistance of Don Kirk, Natural Heritage Specialist for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Cambridge District. Some spring flowering species may be poorly represented in this inventory due to time constraints of the study. This inventory should be considered preliminary in nature and by no means represents a complete list of all species to be found in the study area.
Scientific nomenclature for the inventory follows Morton & Venn (1990) whereas common names are a compilation of names given in Gleason and Cronquist (1963), Newcomb (1977), and Peterson and Mckenny (1968). The Inventory is arranged in phylogenetic order by family. Species within each family are listed in alphabetical order by scientific name. Introduced status for species is indicated in the inventory by using the symbol "*" after the common name. Provincially rare species as described by Argus et al. (1982-87) are indicated in the inventory by the symbol "†" beside the common name and will be discussed in the Significant Features section of this report.
