The Slayers!
From the left is Zelgadis, Amelia, Gourry, Lina, Xelloss, and lastly (and rightly so) we have the Bikini Brigade, Naga and Martina.

A Brief Introduction...
If you want a fun fantasy anime, Slayers is your ticket. It's for the most part light-hearted (although there are some dark moments, believe me), and self-referential, meaning it makes fun of itself, and the fantasy genre in general. I haven't seen anything beyond episode 18 of the first season, sadly, because the video rental stores around me SUCK. But I digress. In any case, what follows is a partial cast list (of characters I happen to have nice pictures of), and after that there are quite a few random images from Slayers (many of which i captured myself), which I have grouped into bizarre and arbitrary categories. Try not to think about thecategories too hard, and just enjoy the pictures. Then, if your Blockbuster is better than mine, go rent some Slayers episodes.

Cast of Characters (a few of them anyway...)

Lina is a rather powerful sorceress of Black Magic... rather TOO powerful in some cases. She's as like to wipe out an entire village as she is to take out the single villain she's fighting.

Amelia is younger than Lina, and specializes in White Magic and driving everyone INSANE with her Justice fixation.

Gourry is a skilled swordsman, and a total idiot. However, despite Gourry's severe lack of brainpower, he still has a certain charm to him. And he DOES do his best to protect Lina, when he remembers where she is.

Zelgadis is a chimera, generally defined as a being created from the parts of many different kinds of animals. Zel is a bit different, however. He started out as a human being, and then was given an "upgrade" by his Grandfather/Great-Grandfather (yes, he's both at once), and turned into a chimera. His skin (and hair) are made of stone, and he's not too happy about that, or too fond of Rezo anymore. He specializes in Shamanist Magic.

Rezo the Red Priest has dedicated his entire life to curing his own blindness. However, he just can't do it. Heal everyone else's eyes, no problem. He therefore turns to Evil to try to fix it, and ends up resurrecting a horrible demon, and dying, as blind as the day he was born.

Xelloss describes himself as the Mysterious Priest, and as I've never seen an episode with him in it, I'll take him at his word, which is probably a mistake. He's a Mazoku, a monster/demon, and he's not REALLY on Lina and company's side, he only joins them when it suits him.

Fighting
There is a lot of fighting in Slayers, which one might imagine, given the show's name and all. However, not all of it is between enemies. What follows are pictures of fighting amongst the ranks of the Slayers.

Lina tries to squeeze Xelloss' head off.

Gourry and Lina generally get into life and death struggles with each other over every meal.

Xelloss and Filia the Golden Dragon (and she can actually assume a dragon form when provoked) "disagree" quite a bit... not surprising, as dragons and Mazoku are natural enemies.

Looks like Zelgadis is ready to cut Rezo to bits. I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to be an elbow rest either... and why is the blind priest READING a book anyway? It can't be braille, or he wouldn't be able to just let his hand dangle over Zel's head like that... hmm...

Glomping
(Glomping basically means grabbing and hanging onto someone and just being generally clingy.) Here follows a small collection of various Slayers characters glomping each other.

Gourry and Zel cling to each other in terror, probably of Lina.

This picture is much scaled down, but if you get out your magnifying glass, you will see Amelia clutching a miniscule (and embarrassed) Zelgadis, who doesn't seem to enjoy being glomped as a plushy doll.

The gang's all here... so it's weird that Lina and Gourry are displaying affection. They barely even show it around each other.

Xelloss must have been in an uncharacteristically friendly and polite mood to save Filia (look at the surprise on her face)... of course, he drops her a moment later, as you've just discovered.

Zel looks rather, um, evil in this shot, but he's actually just about to pull Lina out of the way of an attack spell. However, she is rightly more concerned with his choice of hand-hold.

Zel seems to get glomped a lot... strange when one realizes that hugging him is like snuggling with a standing stone.

Crossdressing
Crossdressing seems to be rather common in Slayers. Here are a few pictures of the Slayers boys in dresses.

It's a bimbo! It's a Sailor Scout! No, it's GOURRY! I mean "Lala". Ah yes, and wouldn't you know it, with his luck, the local hero WOULD fall in love with him.

Xelloss is a blushing bride... and as a special bonus, you get Gourry in the Playboy Bunny outfit!

And here's Zelgadis in a dress. Pretty, isn't he? He'd probably bash my head in with his stony fist if he heard me say that though.

Yep, Xelloss in drag again. You know the world's unfair when a boy looks better in a dress than YOU do (unless you ARE a boy, in which case it might be better for you that way).

It's a girls' night out... pity only the ones with x-es on their faces are REAL girls.

Romancing
Unlike crossdressing, romancing is fairly rare in Slayers. You can find pics of Lina and Gourry fairly easily, but others are more difficult... especially those of Amelia and Zel. But here are some pictures I have declared romanctically inclined (besides others found elsewhere on the page).

This one is quite obviously romance-based.

Lina's trying to figure out who wrote the love letter. I would guess by the blush on Zel's nose that it was him... Xelloss seems to think so, while Gourry cluelessly grins off into the distance, blissfully unaware that someone's muscling in on Lina.

For once they're not at each others' throats... it MUST be love... or Prozac.

Well, Amelia looks pretty happy... and Zel looks pretty comfortable beside her too. And Xelloss seems to have a knowing smirk on his face, as usual.

Well, if Lina's beginning the evening in that state of undress (and if she has any more martinis) I think Gourry will do JUST fine.

Well, I should say this is a rather definitive answer to the Lina/Gourry pairing question!

Dying
"This is the end, beautiful friend, the end"... Several characters buy the farm in Slayers, but I'm not sure how many of them are MOSTLY dead, and how many are ALL dead. Several are revived... sometimes several times. I don't know which of these deaths are final (if any are).

She flies through the air with the greatest of ease, I think she is spewing out her intestines. Kopii Rezo has just run Lina through with a spell attack.

Gourry is both saddened and angered at Lina's demise... that's why he's both crying (honest he is, it's hard to see though) and screaming here.

This is Kopii Rezo, a clone of the Original. Kopii is actually WORSE, if you can believe it. His only goal is to surpass the original... apparently being able to SEE doesn't count. Lina has just run him through with the Sword of Light. And that's what he gets for killing her.

Even Mazoku bleed if you cut them... and Gaav is doing quite a number on Xelloss... and yes, the blackish gobs flying out of his mouth in the last panel ARE flecks of blood. (I made this composite myself.)

Bye-bye Zelgadis... *sniffle* Some people say Zel doesn't care about Amelia at all, but as you can hopefully see in this picture, he's got his arm around her as he's dying... and I BELIEVE he sacrificed himself to save her. If that is indeed the case, then, well...

Here's ONE mostly-dead instance for sure. Lina is being pulled away by the Lord of Nightmares after chanelling the L of N's powers... but Gourry decides he doesn't want to lose Lina, and he pulls her back. (I made this composite too.)

Cute
This category goes last, because I couldn't think of an "ing" verb to head it (and because I didn't want to end the page on a Death note). These are merely pictures I find cute, for one reason or another..

Lina's blushing. And Gourry's just plain cute.

Come on, like I need to TELL you this is cute.

Gourry's treating Lina like a cute little kid again, even though she just saved the world (and it took a lot out of her too, hence the white hair).

Just think it's cute, don't really know why.

Mmm... probably don't have to explain this one at all...

This isn't so much cute as cool... it's a manga (comic book) cover. But Gourry's cute, so it still counts!

Never make a comment about Lina's small breasts or large appetite when she's armed with a fork.

You gotta love Xelloss... everyone else is dressed like some sort of food, and he shows up as a cleaver-toting chef.

This can ONLY be described as cute. TOO cute...
