Law & Order: Criminal Intent

The Rest is Silence by piaffe417
Summary: Whoever coined the phrase "thunderous silence" really did know what he or she was talking about and Alex will do anything - even speak to the dead - to keep it away.
Rating: PG
ikyrian's notes: There aren't a lot people that like Criminal Intent, which is a shame, I think. Last year, when I was stuck in a house with seven other girls in England, I think I was the only one who enjoyed watching it. Detective Goren was an interesting character, I thought, and yes, he was a bit of an asshole. Maybe I just like the assholes (but not in real life because then I would want to kill them!) That means that there's not a lot of fic, or, more accurately, not a lot of fic that I enjoy. (I only really do het if it's the paperback trashy romance kind, there's just something about paper...) But this fic, this fic is wonderful. Very gen, and while is doesn't discount the fact that there could be a relationship between Bobby and Alex, it still manages to remain faithful to the show. Perhaps I should say faithful to the characterization of Bobby and Alex.

CSI: Las vegas

The Body by SLynn
Summary: Grissom and Greg Make an unexpected Journey across the Nevada desert. We'll call this a bonding piece which is in now way related to anything else I've written.
Rating: PG13
ikyrian's notes: Grissom and Greg are my two favorite characters on CSI. Not only because I have a penchant for older men, but because they both have so much angst potential. I mean, Grissom's loosing his hearing and Greg got thrown through a glass window by an explosion. Great stuff, yo. This story deals with both of them and their working relationship. And the things you learn about people when you're stuck in a survival situation with them. It shows how Gris and Greg survive, both without biting each other's head's off and coming to an understanding of one another. Good stuff.

A Walk in the Woods by Kristen999
Summary: A murder in the woods is a simple case, right? It can prove to be a much more dangerous outing than anyone ever expected. Nick-Warrick-Greg friendship.
Rating: PG13
ikyrian's notes: This one made me appreciate Warrick more than I ever thought. I wasn't much of a fan of him until after I read this, and now, I can see where the attraction comes from. Funny how it's fandom that makes me like a character, and not just the actual show.

Comeback in Broad Day by Wintertime
Summary: Three years ago, Greg Sanders vanished on a routine investigation When he resurfaces, he isn't himself, and he's not sure he wants to be.
Rating: PG13
ikyrian's notes: Mmmm, amnesia fiiiiic. I like amnesia fics and watching people try to get their lives back together after their memory loss. The fact that this one is about Greg just makes me smile. Heh. As of now, it's still a WIP. Boo. Hopefully the author will update soon!

Ms America by Michmak
Summary: Greg and Grissom bond on a silent night in the lab.
Rating: PG
ikyrian's notes: Ok, so it's a weird title. But I still enjoy it. There's something about puppies that makes everything ok, especially in fics. Heh. Well, I might have just given something away, but it'll make you smile, I promise. I guess it could be construed as a little OOC for Gris, but I think Greg is spot on.

Insomniac by Elina
Summary: A phone conversation when sleep is somehwere far away.
Rating: G
ikyrian's notes: Could be construed as a little slashy, but it's really just a friendship piece. Rather amusing too. Now, I'm not all that fond of Nick, but here, I just have to go "awwwwww."

No More Mr Nice Guy by Sheela
Summary: A phone conversation between Grissom and Greg, concerning new...er...'evidence' in a murder case.
Rating: PG13
ikyrian's notes: Oh, how I wish there was a sequel to this. But don't let that fact scare you off, this is still really good. Sheela got Grissom's determination and pissy-ness spot on, along with Greg's rambling ability. I love fics that get these two together to talk, with Grissom's older/wiser humor and Greg's fresh outlook on life. Though neither of that is showcased in this piece, it's still a wonderful read.

Transformers: 2007 Movie Verse

Mechanical Nightmare by Rebecca Hb
Summary: Captain Lennox helps Sam to deal with a nightmare in the aftermath of the events of Mission City.
Rating: PG13
ikyrian's notes: This is an absolutely true-to-life look at how I think Sam's first night after the whole mess would have gone. The nightmare part is a little confusing at first, because the reader doesn't know, like Sam, what is real and what is not. His interactions with Bumblebee and Captain Lennox are spectacular here. And the last bit adds a bit of very much needed levity to the situation. Very nicely done.

West Wing

The Long Way Home by Marie Day
Summary: A snow storm and a car-jacking make for a difficult night for everyone involved.
Rating: PG
ikyrian's notes: This is a cute story. Despite the angst and the fact that it's a "bad crap just happened to us, now what?" sort of situation which always makes me happy, the interaction between Toby and Josh in this story is wonderful to read. Especially when they're talking about the financial repercussions of the gifts in the "The Twelve Days of Christmas"! It's that banter between the two that really makes this story stand out for me. I love Toby and I love Josh and when they're together, it's like magic is happening. And it's strange that I don't really see these two slashed, but that's mostly because I have a bizarre love of Josh/C.J. fics. Heh. Never thought y'all hear me say that, now did you?

Time and the Fates of Men III - Fraternity by Marguerite1
Summary: After "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen," Toby reflects on all his brothers.
Rating: PG-13
ikyrian's notes: Yes, there are two more before this one, but I like this one the best out of the three. There's something about Toby's POV where you really cannot go wrong. And while there is the possiblity of taking the angst too far with this series of episodes, Marguerite1 manages to do a fine job of showing us how Toby might have felt that night. This story really humanized Toby for me. There are points when I'm watching the show that I sometimes wonder how all of them manage to last so long and still be human, and this story reminds me of why I started to watch the show in the first place. It turns Toby from the vicious speech writer "They'll like us when we win" attitude and gives him a past. And not only that but a future as well.

The DoD by E.E.Beck
Summary: Sam had a plan. Sam had a secret plan. Takes place in the month following Noel.
Rating: PG
ikyrian's notes: Awwww. This is so cute. I think Sam is an adorable character. I mean, yes I understand that Sam is actually very serious about his life, but he acts so whipped sometimes and it's cute. Margaret won because, well, spork. Heeeee, one my favorite lines. I mean, who doesn't like sporks, and Margaret such a cool character. She's not the type of person that I could imagine Leo having as his secretary, but he's apparently had her for years. Heheheh. It's all so cute. The whole damn thing, just read it already!

Old Masters by witchofthedogs
Summary: For a ficlet challenge. Takes place during "Drought Conditions" - two characters, a phrase and a song to set the mood.
Rating: G
ikyrian's notes: Ow. Ow ow ow OW. Poor Josh. *hugs* Despite being really dismayed by the way the West Wing is slowly coming to an end, I do occaissionally read the fic. And this...hurt. And not in a good way. It's Josh and Leo being them with Josh on the outside and Leo giving advice. Makes me ache for the days when the West Wing was so so good.

Het

Pirates of the Cribbean

Scarring by Guede Mazaka
Summary: namaria is wrecked twice over, rebuilds, and gets her own ship.
Pairing: Will/Anamaria, implied Will/Jack and Will/Elizabeth
Rating: R
ikyrian's notes: Ah, if there was anyone who could draw me back into het, Guede Mazaka would have to be it. I absolutely love her writing. Especially when she writes in the Pirates fandom. This story is a good read because of the way she portrays both Will and Anamaria. She doesn't short change any of the characters of their good qualities nor their flaws, and how the two still manage to come together despite Will's veneer of being a gentlemen (which pisses Anamaria off to no end) and Ana's whole bitchiness going on (which would drive any sane person away...). The one thing that did bother me, though, was because it was from Anamaria's POV, she truncated some words and phrases to broken English that wasn't spoken. It didn't work for me. Mostly because she didn't do it all the time, so when I came across it I would have to stop and reorient myself to the story. It made it choppy. But other than that, I really enjoyed the story.

Slash

Bleach

Stranger Things Have Happened by FuziPenguin
Summary: "Kon is rewarded for protecting Ichigo's family (and body) and even Ichigo is surprised that his own body is so appealing." (challenge)
Pairing: Kon/Ichigo
Rating: NC-17
ikyrian's notes: I have an unholy love for Kon. And Ichigo. Both of them just make me want to go "squee!" when I see them either in the manga or in fic. Put them together and that's just one unholy alliance just to make me squirm. I'm not making much sense am I? Heh, I thought not. This story, gives a great characterization to both of the characters, with Ichigo's confusion and Kon's blatant disregard to Ichigo. *snerk* Not only does it make me smile, but it's really hot too.

CSI: Las Vegas

A Little Incentive by Annie D
Summary: Greg has a crush.
Pairing: Gil/Greg
Rating: PG
ikyrian's notes: I have a strange love for older/younger pairings. Gil and Greg are no exception. And Greg's little puppy dog crush is just too cute.

Fruits Basket

I so totally don't read much in this fandom anymore, but there is one thing that will bring me back time and time again: Kyo. Shigure. Doin' the nasty.

Junkie by FuziPenguin
Summary: "This is such a sweet collaboration/Youve got the power/Ive got the shame"
Pairing: Shigure/Kyo
Rating: NC-17
ikyrian's notes: I love Shigure/Kyo. Mostly because those two are my favorite characters ('tho I have to admit to not really enjoying how dark Shigure is gettting to be in the manga...). And this story does it for me-how Shigure will take even without Kyo's express permission, and how hurt Kyo is, doesn't know what to do, and just gives in. This is a sad story for me. But then, it does involve Kyo, so is it any surprise?

Gensoumaden Saiyuki

You Speak My Language by ciceqi
Summary: It's this thing that mates do, see.
Pairing: Konzen/Goujun
Rating: NC-17
ikyrian's notes: I love this story. It's calm a beautiful. I love how understanding grows between two people who never speak to one another and who fear that should they speak, all would be lost to them. I can't help but wish, every single time I read it, that there would be a sequel of some kind to give us more closure. Ether way, the writing, as with all of ciceqi's works, is fantastic. A most pleasurable read.

Things Unspoken by ciceqi
Summary: It will be the first time they've spoken, but not the first time they've met.
Pairing: Konzen/Goujun
Rating: NC-17
ikyrian's notes: Alas, though from the title it could conceivably be a sequel to the above story it is not. This story, unfortunately, has no relation to the above story beyond the pairing and the writer. I've seem to once again fall into a very small, specialized niche in this fandom (as I do with almost all others). Again, the writing is superb - you can almost feel that you are there watching this story unfold. Listening to the music and watching Konzen dance. The feel of this story is great; the characters are very much in character, which can be difficult considering that Goujun (as a dragon king) is only in the Gaiden. And the Bosatsu here is wonderful in all hir glory. Well worth the time to read, even if you're not fond of this pairing.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Game Verse by Guede Mazaka
Summary: Modern-day AU, set mainly in Miami but also encompassing the entire Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. The PotC characters are intelligence operatives in MI6 and the CIA, but that's really an excuse to explore some of the most complicated relationships I've ever written. Heavy on the polyamory, mainly light in tone but capable of tackling some nasty subjects. Guest stars from the fandoms of Master and Commander [movieverse], Horatio Hornblower [movieverse], Sharpe [movieverse], and Goldeneye. Series is completed.
Pairings: Jack/James/Will/Elizabeth/Anamaria (and that's just the PotC cast!)
Rating: NC-17
ikyrian's notes: Duuuuuuuuude. You have no idea how much I like this series. I remember when it came out, I followed it all the way to its end, and I loved every minute of it. And what's better is it's intelligent. I don't recommend reading this late at night, or when you want something to just snooze through. If you do, you'll miss something and trust me, there's a lot to miss. It's very dense with it's terminology, the ideas, the characters. Some of the characters still don't have faces to me, but I've grown to like them all. James and Elizabeth's relationship in the beginning seems a little contrived to me, but as the story goes on, everything smooths out. It's truly a wonderful read. I also reccommend if anything in her other fandoms. I don't read most of them and she's not working on PotC much at the moment, but if she writes this well for PotC, it stands to reason that her other stuff is just as wonderful.
