Semiconductor News

Activities
The first important initiative of the Society consists of the publication of the first scientific journal in the field from Pakistan, known as the Semiconductor News (SN) which has been in continuous publication since 1992 with wide circulation within Pakistan and abroad on a quarterly basis. This publication has, by now, established itself as a periodical of standing in the international community of semiconductor scientists as gauged from their comments received from time to time.

The Society initiated and has organized a number of National Symposia on "Topics in Semiconductors" in the field of semiconductors to encourage communication and collaboration between the scientists in the field in Pakistan. Although the symposium focussed on the topics of current semiconductor research in Pakistan, the scope of this activity was later expanded to include tutorial lectures on related topics for preparation and greater benefit of students and those intending to start research in the field of semiconductors.

These symposia have, traditionally, been held at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, but with the dawn of the new millennium the first ever symposium outside Islamabad is being organized at Karachi University with financial support provided by the National Centre of Physics (NCP) in April 2000.
