Prescott People - Lee McKnight
|
|
Lee McKnight was known known in Prescott as a property owner, shoe
store owner, historian, philosopher, writer and mayor. He was an ever-present citizen,
supporter and participant in Prescott life for a large part of this century. His legacy
includes the fountain at the foot of Edward Street, dedicated to Prescott and inscribed
with his The St. Lawrence River: A Reflective Soliloquy.

Not without a sense of humour, Lee compiled a list of Prescott
nicknames. I recognize some of the names, but not many. The nicknames are likely
the 1930s to the 1960s. (Lee McKnight Collection) |

During the 1930s and 1940s, he worked as assistant to Dr. Mahlon William Locke. Dr.
Locke, from Williamsburg, was known world-wide as a healer. Visitors included Prime
Minister MacKenzie King, Louis B. Mayer, Jean Harlow and Eleanor Roosevelt.
