| Edgar Pomeroy in USA in Soccer Hall of Fame recognised from this image by his cousin, now 90 years old, daughter of his first cousin James Augustus Shearer. Born in England 1867 he arrived in California in 1888 and a year later organized gym classes and two soccer teams. In 1898 organized Oakland Hornets whose major games were against visiting British merchant seamen. He formed the first San Francisco Bay area league with the first game being played in January of 1902. Led the Hornets to the championship and remained till 1908 when he joined the Olympic Club. Edgar Pomeroy was Olympic Club Commissioner from 1914 to 1925, he spent the next five years organizing various sports while Commissioner-Coach at Petaluna. In 1932 he managed the Barbarians, formerly the Hornets, and remained active in soccer until 1942. Elected honorary president of the Northern California Football Association in 1942. He also excelled at rugby, cross country running, swimming and gymnastics.' He instituted the playing of Rugby in the Bay area going with the team to the Paris Olympics in 1924 1910 Census has him in Oakland with wife Mattie French and son Gordon. By 1920 Mattie was dead and Edgar was living alone. His brother Campbell and his wife Leana had taken Gordon into their household in Sonoma , CA to grow up besisde his cousin Edgar Gordon and Virginia 1930 census Campbell is living with his daughter and son in law and his grandaughter Kathleen. 1930 passenger list for ship Hamburg Edgar Pomeroy age 63 born UK 1868 naturalised 1929 travelling with Lottie Pomeroy age 35 born San Francisco, arriving 9th August 1930 New York. Living Oakland Alemada, of the same address. Not his daughter,sister, aunt or sister in law. Presume this could be a second wife but have not yet found confirmation. The only Charlotte/ Lottie in the family was Eliza Charlotte Pomeroy nee Culloden , born Calcutta and aged about 76 in 1930. |

| Edgar Pomeory of San Francisco California What we know. Edgar Pomeroy was born 1869 in Woolston Lancs, son of Augustus Frederick Brett Pomeroy and wife Elizabeth Jane Jackson Pomeroy. His brother Campbell was born in 1871 at Waterloo Lancashire, a few months before his father's early death. They migrated to USA in 1888 ; Edgar married in Martha, (Mattie) L French in Hayward Alemeda California before the 1900 census because they are recorded living with their mother Elizabeth and Campbell in Tenth Ave Oakland City Alameda. Gordon, their son, was born January 1905. There was another child. The records have a Campbell A Pomeroy born in 25 January 1906 but there is no further record of this child it is assumed he died at birth or as a child. Gordon's decendents still live in San Francisco. Pamela and Robert Pomeroy . |

| Edgar's son Gordon. was a furniture designer in San Francisco. He married a Miss Buchanan and had two children Pamela and Robert. We made contact with Robert in July 2005. |
