Pokémon yellow is better version of red and blue. Instead of choosing from 3 Pokémon at the beginning you will be pushed away from an eevee and your rival will take it. Then Prof. Oak gives you a recently caught Pikachu.

Once you start your journey Pikachu starts out hating you. As you go through out the journey it will change its affections for you. With a special affection once it learns thunder and it will make a huge thunderbolt.

With a big rumor before yellow came out you'd be able to catch mew but it was just a big rumor (for the American version). But a very good feature with gameshark toy can teach your Pikachu surf and talk to the surfing dude below fuchsia city and enjoy surfin' the waves.

In yellow you will be able to get all 3 starting Pokémon from red and blue from certain people. Squirtle from Officer Jenny after you defeat Lt. Surge, Charmander from the guy above nugget bridge, and Bulbasaur if your Pikachu is happy from the lady next to the PokéCenter in Cerulean City.

As your walking around your Pikachu will follow behind you and you may talk to it at any time.
