Sketches

It's a whole bunch of cows. Obviously.
Contained within this section are some of the expression sheets I came up with during the course of drawing Close En-Cow-Ters, in an attempt to figure out exactly how the main characters should look in different situations, as well as some original designs for peripheral characters and objects that feature at various points in the story. Quite a few of the expressions and poses seen here were never used in the finished piece, or changed significantly between the sketchbook and the Bristol Board.
The sketches above, by the way, were created for a scene in which a small herd of cows encounter the invading aliens, and greet them with the sort of dozy indifference that only cows can project. I didn’t want them all to look the same, and so went about designing a selection of individualised bovines with their own personalities. This probably went unnoticed by the vast majority of readers, but never mind, because I thoroughly enjoyed drawing them. Dim-wittedness is a trait that always proves fun to convey.
