Sharlay Sketches

Sharlay was the most difficult character to actually design, by a pretty wide margin. It took me an entire afternoon to get her face right, during the course of which I produced about 50 different drawings, the vast majority of which were so unutterably awful that they’re never going to see the light of day ever again. (Trust me, I’m doing you a big favour by not including them here.) Curiously though, once her design was set in stone, it became a lot simpler to place her in different situations – hence, as with Bobbi-Jo, there wasn’t much call for preparatory sketching. The roughs you see here represent some of the slightly more involved poses and expressions that cropped up as the story progressed; and yes, the one on the top right is an Uhura-inspired ‘turn-to-camera-with-finger-jammed-in-ear’ shot.
