A bird field guide book is extremely useful on field
trips. Take along a note book, pen or pencil. Make sure you take down notes
and perhaps make some sketches of birds sighted.
Always be suitable attired. If you are going to
walk in the forest, do wear comfortable walking shoes. Shoes that provide adequate
support can make the difference between an enjoyable and painful birding trek. Try
not to wear white or light coloured clothing. You may want to have long pants to
protect your legs from being scratched by thick undergrowth or thorns.
A hat is a must if you intend to stay out in the sun.
Be sure that you have enough drinking water for trips of more than 3 hours, and
food or some snacks for longer trips.
