LADAINHA or QUADRA:
When a ladainha or quadra is started, the capoeiristas must stay respectfully listening, and the capoeiristas who are at the foot of the berimbau only begin to play when the singer, having reached the end of the story that s/he is telling says: D a volta ao mundo (Go around the world), starts to sing a corrida, or gives a signal with the berimbau. Examples of ladainhas: Favela: Resduo Humano (Ghetto: Human Waste), Cidado do Mundo (World Citizen), Magia (Magic), Idade de Brincar (Age for Playing), etc.
The Quadra is composed of four lines as its name indicates, and the procedure is the same as for the ladainha. Example of a quadra:
NO LAO NINGUM ME PANHA
(FOLCLORE)
No-one catches me in the snare
|
I! EU COMPREI TODO TEMPERO! S FALTA FARINHA E BANHA! EU NO CAIO EM ARAPUCA! NO LAO NINGUM ME PANHA! VIVA MUTAES! I VIVA MUTAES! |
i! I bought all the seasoning! All thats missing is flour and lard! I dont fall in Arapuca! No one catches me in a snare! Long live Mutaes! I long live Mutaes! |
ENTRY SONG or LOUVAO:
Where all the participants of the roda respond to the verses in chorus, before the game starts.
Example of a Louvao:
|
- SALVE A MUTAES - CORO: I, SALVE A MUTAES, CAMAR - I VIVA O BRASIL - CORO: I, VIVA O BRASIL, CAMAR - I VIVA MEU DEUS - CORO: I, VIVA MEU DEUS, CAMAR - I VOLTA DO MUNDO - CORO: I, VOLTA DO MUNDO, CAMAR |
- Long live Mutaes - Chorus: I, long live Mutaes, my friend - I, long live Brazil - Chorus: I, long live Brazil, my friend - I, long live God - Chorus: I, long live God, my friend - I, around the world - Chorus: I, around the world, my friend |
CORRIDOS:
The singer is not concerned with telling any story and the chorus participation is immediate. As with the different berimbau rhythms, the corrido contributes to determine the pace and quality of the game.
Examples of corridos: O Milnio (The Millenium), L na Casa de Capoeira Mutaes )There in the Mutations House), O Canto do Batizado (The Song of the Batizado), Entre Palmas e Cantos (Between Claps and Songs), etc.
