WHY IS IT THIS WAY?

The history of capoeira is a real multi-colored quilt that is still being pieced togther; we cant be sure that anyone will ever be able to resolve the age-old controversies concerning it. Who is the Keeper of Truth? Today within various capoeira groups, segregatory prejudices are being kept alive in the names of Angola, Regional, etc. In this way, we are contributing to separate from one another the fruits that grew on the same genealogical tree, sometimes by imposing absurd rules. Yes, yes, no, no so, why is it this way?

Why cant you play barefoot?
Why cant you play with shoes?
Why cant you play without a shirt?
Why cant you play without your groups shirt?
Why cant you play without long pants?
Why does the uniform have to be white?
Why does the uniform have to be yellow and black?
Why does the uniform have to be blue and white?
Why does the uniform have to be pink and brown?
Why do you have to have a belt?
Why cant you have a belt?
Why cant you use a stone to play the berimbau with?
Why cant the berimbau be painted?
Why do you have to paint a circle on the ground?
Why cant you play during the ladainha?
Why do you have to sing a quadra?
Why cant you have a chamada?
Why cant you call a master in a chamada?
Why shouldnt you pull a master out of a roda?
Why must you use only the movements that the master taught you?
Why cant you play fast?
Why cant you play slow?
Why cant you have just one berimbau in the bateria?
Why cant you have two berimbaus?
Why cant you have three berimbaus?
Why not four?

Who can make the rules when and why?
Do you have to accept the rules, even when they dont make sense?
Are you free to question them?

Can it be that we need all this confusion in order to play capoeira?
Yes or no?
O sim, sim, sim, o no, no, no, o sim, sim, sim, o no, sim, sim...

On the instruments, from left: Tempestade, Luanda, Siri, Anzol. In the roda: Trapzio e Tigre.

These questions are not meant to convince, entice, or conquer anyone. The aim is to refer to the experiences that every capoeirista, sooner or later, will have in capoeira rodas..
