OutCast Single Player Equipment

OutCast will feature a startling array of equipment, a small example of such pieces is shown here:

Health supplements Armor supplements Augmentations Stimulants Smoke grenades Blind grenades
Binoculars Telescopes IR / UV goggles Torches Batteries Coins
Metal detector Laser pointer Knife Hair pin Motion tracker Car bombs
Sugar Filament wire Comm-link Beacon locator Gas / Rad protection Anti-grav
Stealth suit Grabber stick Grappling hook Booster Rockets Siege Shield Scopes

Health supplements
Billie's health is your primary concern. Should it decrease too much, seek one of the many forms of medical help nearby.

Armor supplements
Armor will protect Billie, and limit the damage that most weapons will do. However, when shot at armor decreases similarly to health. Armor will stop health decreasing as much from most weapons.

Health and Armor augmentation
The maximum amount of health or armor that Billie may have can be added to be using an augmentation pickup. Augmentations are always permanent, and decrease damage from weapons fire to health or armor by 1% each time one is picked up.

Stimulants
There are many different stimulants in the far future, and some in the past. Some stimulants will allow you to move faster, some increase your rate of fire whereas others might increase your accuracy. Stimulants do a range of things. Look out for bio-regenerative proto-plasmids as these will allow you to heal from wounds until the drug wears off. Drugs such as adrenalin may improve your reaction time and make your controls more sensitive so be warned, there are many effects.

Smoke grenades
Grenades that can be thrown over a short distance and will not explode, but let a small cloud of smoke loose. This smoke makes it incredibly difficult for enemies to target you - but also just as difficult for you to fire back.

Blind grenades
These grenades emit an unholy light when used. All unshielded infantry will become temporarily blinded by the effect, and are ripe for the picking. Be careful when using them, if Billie looks into the light, he will also be blinded.

Binoculars
The Binoculars allow Billie to see over very long ranges, this aids him to spot opponents and objectives well before he's spotted. The enhanced vision comes in very useful when picking out targets with heavier weaponry before they can bring it to bear.

Telescopes
Telescopes have the same effects as Binoculars, except over an adjustable range. Telescopes must be used where found as they cannot be moved. Be warned though, many telescopes require a coin to make them function.

IR / UV Goggles
Infra red or Ultra Violet goggles can be picked up. These goggles, when worn can give Billie a different edge to his vision. Where IR goggles will allow Billie to see heat traces from enemies far easier, it lacks visual capability. UV goggles are ideal for night fighting environments as they allow enhanced sight in the darkness but are quite useless during the day or when the lights are on. Both IR and UV goggles emit no noise or light so they are ideal in stealth conditions. Be warned, they require batteries to run them. Goggle can be used with all weapons, but get in the way of scopes.

Torches
Torches are available for use in the dark. However enemies will often be attracted by the bright lights and Torches do require batteries for use. Torches can be used with any sidearm, or one handed weapon.

Batteries
Essential equipment, Batteries make powered tools work!

Coins
Coins can be used as a distractionary aid - throwing them will produce a noise to grab an enemies attention. Some of the dumber enemies may choose to pick up the coin - perfect for luring them into the open, or into a trap. Coins can also be used in vending machines or telescopes.

Metal detector
The mine detector allows Billie to find his way through minefields without getting spread over a forty meter radius. Be warned, the mine detector eats batteries and cannot be used with any other equipment simultaneously.
Metal Detector

Laser Pointer
A laser pointer can be fixed to most weapons, giving Billie an idea of where he's firing. Laser pointers will increase accuracy significantly, but not over distance as the eye cannot see the beam to easily. Laser pointers can be used with scopes for more efficient firing and reduced aiming time. They require batteries to run, and some of the better opponents will pick out the red mark if they are given the opportunity so it may give your presence away.

Knife
A trusty blade, the knife is both a weapon and a tool. Knives can be used to pick some locks, cut ropes and stab things. The knife cannot be used on smaller locks or electronic locks.

Hair pin
For more intricate lock devices, the hair pin is ideal for picking them. The hair pin can only be used on small locks - larger locks result in a lost pin. Also like the knife, not on number pads or electronic locks.

Motion Tracker
A handheld device, the motion tracker will detect any nearby units in a similar fashion to a radar device. Anything that moves will appear on the radar screen. Stationary objects however will not appear so beware of enemies that prefer to lie and wait. The motion tracker requires batteries and can only be used with a sidearm or single handed weapon.

Car Bombs
Looted parts can often be combined to create a Car Bomb. These devices can be attached to cars to give the driver a nasty surprise when he puts the key in the ignition.

Sugar
Putting sugar into the petrol tank of a car will stop it from moving, so it may be useful to keep with you. Note that an immobilised vehicle can still fire!

Filament Wire / Fishing line
Thin wires can be used as garrotes and to set traps for unwary enemies - use it to your advantage.

Comm-Link
Listening in to the enemy's movements may prove useful - you could know before they bust down you door that they're there. Comm-Links are often stationary. Some devices can be carried with you. Older devices can only be used with sidearms or single handed weapons, but some hi-tech versions appear as lapel pins or earpieces. Some devices may need batteries to run but others may not. Be careful, some devices also contain a homing beacon.

Beacon Locator
Beacon location devices show all beacons within a short radius. This device works in exactly the same way as the motion tracker except it can pick up stationary targets. Watch out for soldiers who have turned their equipment off however, as it can't be picked up on the short range scans.

Gas Mask / Radiation suit
These two pieces of equipment will impair your vision, but prevent you from being beaten by mustard gas or toxic radiation. Use these as much as you like as they won't run out as they don't need a power source.

Anti-grav
Anti gravity packs allow for flight, but they often require fuel or batteries. Flight suits will only last for a short period of time so use them for limited amounts of time.

Stealth Suit
The far future has many hi-tech pieces of equipment, but the stealth suit is the pinnacle of modern technology. Rendering its user completely invisible to the naked eye, the stealth suit is the ultimate protection. Stealth suits cannot be used in conjunction with armor, so putting one on means taking some off. Stealth suits are visible at very short range due to the way they make the air vibrate around them.

Grabber Stick
The grabber stick allows Billie to reach items in hard to reach places - top shelves, or the other sides of fences etc. The grabber stick may be used in conjunction with a sidearm or single handed weapon.

Grappling Hook
A high power air carbine fires this multi-hooked projectile over fair distances. Billie can then use the attached rope to climb up even vertical surfaces as if it were a ladder. The grappling hook has minimal range and can only be used if there is a harnessing point to be found at the top of the climb. In emergency situations the grappling hook can be used as a weapon, but it does very little damage and take an incredibly long time to reload.

Booster Rockets
Small rocket packs designed for crossing rivers or streams can be used by Billie. These packs allow for a short burst of speed in any direction - don't fly into any walls or objects as you can be hurt by the impact. Booster rockets can often be used to set traps as they explode when shot.

Siege Shield
Used by most light infantry, the siege shield is held in one hand while the other is used to fire a laser pistol. Siege shields offer some protection against shots, and reduce damage to the body. However the siege shield can only be used with a sidearm or single handed weapons.

Scopes
Scopes increase the visual range and accuracy of the chosen weapon. Some scopes have the capacity to magnify the target multiple times, some can detect IR and UV wavelengths whereas some can be used in conjunction with the laser pointer.
