GROOVY
ONLINE LINKS
some
links to my various obsessions and distractions...
-
The
Webbies | heaps of great website links, as these are the annual
awards of "best of the web", held in SF (where else?)
-
-
Salon
| a great left-leaning magazine website - note that lots of their content
has now gone premium post the dotcom bust
-
Arts
& Letters Daily | award winning intellectual website from expatriate
yank dennis dutton, down in the Salem of the South Pacific of Christchurch
-
NME
| brit music rag's online presence. Q mag used to have a fab site,
too, but its a mess now...
-
Feed | R.I.P. circa
2001, twas a sad day....
-
Plastic
| ...but Plastic survives, check it out....
MAPS
-
Environmental
News Network | environmental news, the best. Various competitors
emerged in 98 to take their crown (remember Verde?), but they crashed
and burned and this remains the best.
-
Resource
Renewal | I worked for these guys for five years, oh, and I designed
the website! ;)
-
Urban
Ecology | Great pals of Resource Renewal, with a decidely urban enviromental
edge. A great group out of the Berkeley-Oakland schools of thought...
-
Waitakere
eco-city
| I worked for these guys for five years two, and their new website
is fantastic!
-
-
-
New
Zealand Herald | old Granny, very conservative but also a great, comprehensive
web presence
-
Scoop
/ Newsroom | news
channeled out of Welly, both a mixed bag requiring some sorting of wheat
from chaff.., One super highlight, is the weekly column of...
-
Russell
Brown | hard news column, the only progressive news column from someone
of the "new generation", he also has an online presence at Mediawatch
-
SAN
FRANCISCO | LIFE IN THE BUBBLE
-
Craig's
List | I miss this... I miss it's relevance... I surf it sometimes
for nostalgic fun....
-
SF
Station | Nice listings which are totally irrelevant to me now. The
neighborhood column's always a nice read, though.
-
Laughing
Squid | I used to subscribe to the Squid List, whereupon my email
was flooded daily about dozens of obscure but very hip events that I never
felt like going to (okay, I went to the Green Party fundraiser at the
Cell, and the Apple Betty night in SoMa, and the Bike Coalition Winterfest...)
-
Groovetech
| Wot itz all about, dance music in SF, where all the mp3 buzz all started,
this site was here from the get-go. Get sorted and dance to the beat...
-
-
On
Burning Man
| in which the SF Bay Guardian rips to shreds this once relevant and uncommercialized
desert bachanalian ritual.
-
Best
of the Bay | The Bay Guardian crept
up on me in the last year or so of my time there, and I fell in love with
this obsessively liberal city rag. Including the shocked voices of rage
regarding the millionaire's evicted on an owner-move in at the Skyy mansion
on Nob Hill... "Damn the Landlords!" every great city needs
the alternative press, and the Bay Guardian invented it in its modern
incarnation. Unlike the Rolling Stone, this rag never lost its spirit
or its direction. And this is the link to the best of the best, the SFBG
Best of the Bay.
