AOTEAROA
VISIONS : 08.02
Welcome to the website of Leo
Koziol, join me on my adventures at bringing hipness, happiness, and general
21st Century "2-1-C" ness to Nuhaka, Aotearoa New Zealand and district.
I am a recently escaped refugee from
San Francisco, USA, where I dwelt on the edge of life for five years. Prior
to that, I spent an equivalent term posing as a "Jafa" on the streets
of Ponsonby, Auckland, Tamaki Makaurau New Zealand.
I am now taking a much needed "sabbatical"
from urban life and I now live in the lovely village of Nuhaka (Nuhaka population
at the last Census: 354; San Francisco Bay Area population at the last Census:
7,389,620.).
Nuhaka is situated at a great location, some 40 minutes from the coastal town
of Gisborne and 25 minutes from the riverside towship of Wairoa. Gisborne,
despite its size, has a thriving cafe scene, and all the modern amenities
you'd expect in the average mid-sized suburb (without the malls), highlights
being the Ware-Whare and Pak-n-Slave. Wairoa has a small but busy shopping
district, and is famed for having the World's Best Mince n' Cheese Pies.
At Nuhaka, it's also a five minute drive to thermal relief at the Morere
Hot Springs, ten minutes to surfing at Blacks Beach, and fifteen
minutes to swimming and snorkelling at Mahia
Peninsula. Despite the relatively high unemployment rate, the local
district has a thriving Maori community: check out the local websites of Rakaipaaka
and Kahungunu to get some
sense of the excitement of things going on.
REDESIGN
& RELAUNCH : 08.02
Like the new look? I'm making
a concerted effort to work on this website, and boost content etc over the
next 6-9 months. The old Journal has been archived, and there's a more comprehensive
weblink section. Various photography and architecture projects will be posted
soon, also.
This is all part of an attempt to launch a writing career, and progress a
number of associated projects based in and around the time I am spending in
Nuhaka, including an interactive non-fiction book project (The Sentient
Islands), a local district appreciation website (The Spirit
Coast), and a fun section on the cultural relevance of meat pies in
modern New Zealand society (Got Mince n' Cheese?). All coming
soon, right here....
...oh, and you can still contact me via email at: [email protected]
